The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Just hatched 14 English Orpingtons from Papa's Poultry! Mottled; Lavender; Lemon Cuckoo; Splash and a project Gold Laced/Silver Laced cross (not for breeding, just for eye candy). So excited! They are 1 day old and they look like fluffy, colored cotton balls running around the brooder. I'm in love!
Just wanted to say that I hatched a ton of eggs from Pappas Poultry last year and fertility was great! I would definitely recommend him to everyone.

Unfortunately a skunk got in and ate 19 out of 24 chicks over a two day period! But the birds that remain are lovely. I will continue to buy from him.
Congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS! Post pictures if you can

The one with the "Eyeliner" is a cream legbar. It's funny to see that they are already so much smaller than the Orps!

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear about the skunk and the loss of the little ones :(

This was my first attempt at hatching (so difficult to find English Orps near me so I thought I would try it myself). Papa's Poultry was recommended by a friend of mine and I've been nothing but pleased with them. Their communication is fantastic.

I'll update with pictures as they grow!

I'm going to check papas poultry out. I've had really bad luck with fertility on shipped eggs that I've bought

O no, so sorry to hear that! I hope you got the skunk.

Please do keep us updated. Going to check papa's out now.

Mailed eggs are really hard. Be prepared to loose several of them. I actually drove 4 1/2 hours to pick mine up. All of them were fertile! I had a few blood rings and a couple that didn't hatch, but my hatch was about 90% of what I picked up. I would expect that to go down with shipping to 50%-70%.

He has great customer service as well!

Agree with you. I ordered and paid for 17 eggs....they generously shipped 35. I successfully hatched 18, so the statistics are correct.

I hope to find someone in driving distance next Spring. This is my second attempt at incubating shipped eggs. My first attempt only 3 out of 16 were fertile and then only 2 hatched.

I have ordered many eggs to hatch out. I have had great hatches and horrible, where not one egg was viable. Sometimes they are handled so roughly, their air saks are blown away. Its just a hit and miss. I also ordered chicks for the first time this year from Papa's Poultry. I have a second order of chicks on the way from him. He is a great person to deal with. I am getting a GL orp and some of his SL x Blue and white chicks. Should be here tomorrow I think. Here are some pics of my Blues and Blacks I got from him. They are about 16 weeks old in these pics and the boys are big! I just love them, they are beauties!
