The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

And I just remembered I had these. The first video is Sterling and Duchess when they were staying with a friend during the move, before I had their pen finished.

The second video was them out on the yard with her mixed bantams. Watching them immediately made me think of the final fight in Jurassic World with the raptors and the Indominus Rex. Lol.

What do you think of this lav cockerel? Hatched May 1st, so 3 months old now. I think I'm going to keep him for next year..... unless something better comes along.

and here's my embarrassment....

Do you remember the laced orp that I kept saying is male?

5.5 wks
had very slow feathering and male-like stance

7 weeks
walked like a male

stood like a male

.... but no real comb growth

We're at a little over 8 weeks now:

Still no comb or dropping wattles

.... and even looks a little insulted that I can't tell its gender! :lau

Any guesses???

The last time I had a chick this difficult, I let my daughter play dress up to help the chick identify with her feminine side. (It worked too. The chick grew up to be my giant blue orp, Jewel.)

Here's a quick shot of my 4 wk olds. I know I've got at least 2 laced males in here already.

Just look at that nice, easy-tell, pink comb!

Wow, looks like a female now! Crazy.

This thread has been busy! My 3 little chicks are getting bigger, I think they are 6 weeks old now. 2 cockerels & 1 pullet for sure.

The poor black one still has hardly any feathers!

It's interested to read all the posts about lacing because I am getting some silver-laced Barnevelder eggs next week to hatch out. So I might be asking for lacing advice soon too! I read somewhere that you should pick the roosters with he best color and the hens with the best lacing? Great to see everyone's chickens.

I need to get pics of my lavender grow outs!:) they’re looking so beautiful and I’m excited to have such beautiful babies! I hope to use them in the future with my silver and lavender laced birds.

My friend’s youngest son is in France working at a vineyard and sight seeing for a couple of weeks before school starts back up and just sent her this picture and video.

I have jokingly instructed that I expect him to smuggle eggs or chicks back and I will accept all offerings. Lol

I think the Lavender rooster looks good. I'm going to have to take a video of the one juvenile SLO I have. I think there's something wrong with her? I'd hoped it was a her. I've only noticed it since I got them down on the ground, but she seems to have a lot of trouble walking. She reminds me almost of a cornish x her feet and legs are so large.

I've got two more sick ones now, Sterling and the pullet. I'm treating with VetRX but am open to anything else.

The little ones are still utterly adorable. My next set should be hatching this weekend. My friend brought the babies back to me over the weekend, so I'll get updated pictures of them. The colors are wild in person.

The Lavenders finally got on the ground this weekend as well.

This is the coop/run I paid $75 for which I think was not a terrible price at all. She’d been using it to raise Jubilee Orpingtons before selling them off because they were too broody for her. Lol
