Yeah they sure are .. You should see him with my sablepoots - He cant leave them alone.

I think its the camera and the chickens that make the good shots, I just point and click many times (it takes a lot of shots to get a good one as you probably know

How cute. I can remember wallking around with a chicken on my head when I was child. Took one to school in a birdcage for Show and Tell. Back then I was a city girl.

That picture is so cute. I have 8 grandchildren and they love to come an pet chicks. I try and have some when they come.

Hi Rennie - Thanks for the photos - will look forward to updated pictures as they get older. I just got my first GL chicks - so I'm really excited to see how they develop. I plan on taking lots of photos to document for future use.

The bedding is pine nuggets - I tried to find the rice husks, but can't find them here. I will check into the corn cob bedding. I do like this pine nugget bedding a lot better than shavings.

Linda - The older chicks range from 2 weeks to 4 weeks old. They enjoyed their day outside yesterday. When I brought them back in for the night, they were exhausted. They had their big ole necks stretched full out and rarely a peep out of them all night !!! LOL. They are so funny.

Jeremy- just give a yell when you want to chat - you know the #.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Rennie...love the look of the Orps and your son is a cutie.
Joy...thanks for telling me the ages of your chicks...I was thinking they looked about the same age as mine...I think 4 out of my 5 are roos....just based on behavior. I have a list of things to look for in a couple of weeks to help identify roos from girls. Mine are doing a lot of "sparring" and chest bumping. Only one stays off to the side ladylike. The tails are starting to look like a roos too I think. I hope my next batch of mixed English/American Orps has more females! I am going to check into different bedding in my brooder next time I'm in town. After this batch hatches I still have my Blue Jersey Giants to hatch out in May. The basement will need "dusting off" when I'm done with all the hatching!

I know this is a little off topic... but my first yr I used a lot of those plastic totes lined with papertowel for the first couple of days... then changed over to the shavings... I STILL have dust in my house from winter before this one. We converted a 2x4 wooden shipping crate into a brooder. I had my husband to make it with a double floor... so I can slide a plastic dog pan layered with newspaper under it to catch the droppings. I move the chick into that brooder when they are a week old. I don't use very much shavings inside my house at all anymore. ALSO... I have discovered those 3 lb plastic hanging little giant feeders... They are FANTASTIC for saving feed. I was using those little round plastic feeders and my chicks were scratching the feed out of them as fast as I could fill them up... Well no more..my Orp chicks feet are too big... hahahaah they can eat out of them just fine without the worry of getting their heads stuck in a hole... but can't get those big feet into the feeder to scratch it out and waste it.. I am one a happy camper
