Any possibility that keeping the chicks in a "plastic" storage barn ....lack of ventilation ? Could cause the problem?

nope, roof is vented and I only moved them there the night before last. so i KNOW that is NOT the issue.

eta- during the day 2 doors are open too

I just want to clarify, this issue didn't originate from Julie or Joy. I was having "issues" with a certain brooder long before I ever got chicks from either of them. Julie's birds were in a brooder next to my "afflicted" brooder before I realized anything was "wrong". I don't want to implicate anyone right now but don't want anyone assuming they were involved in this as they were not

You mentioned one chick that vibrates. I have a chick that vibrates too. Never seen anything like it. Mostly tiny movements in her head and neck, fast, tiny jerking movements. She has done it since hatching. She has showed no other symptoms. She eats, poops, gets around normally. I do not plan to keep her. Next time I am headed toward San Bernardino in business hours she will be going to the lab as well. She's probably four weeks old now. She is Orp. The others that got sick were mostly CBM.

I have had a few ameraucana that "vibrate" that all came from different sources (none of jean's). It is not the same and they could walk fine, they just had a head tremor. I put them in the laying pen for eating eggs, wouldn't want to perpetuate a flaw. I tried researching it and couldn't find anything concrete. I just chalked it up to a genetic defect

I do appreciate the effort in trying to help me figure it out. I am going to call the AG vet and see if I can set it up for Monday as I don't have a vehicle till then. I just hope to figure it out before I experience more losses....

Once you start vaccinating for Mareks, you have to vaccinate ALL and FOREVER! Mareks vaccine is only good till one day old. After that it does not work.

Please don't give out mis information..............

Mareks vaccine is good on any young bird that has not been infected to the virus.

You do not have to vaccinate forever if you use the vaccine, it doesn't spread bird to bird. If your farm has a bad mareks virus on your property, it is a good idea to vaccinate your birds. However, the vaccine does not stop the birds from getting the virus, it stops the tumors from developing.

Just ask the lab how they prefer and dead birds stored. Our lab will not accept frozen birds. A friend had an issue and took a live bird and dead bird. Simple bloof draw showed the issue was cecal worms. Wazine in the water and issue gone. Hope you do not lose anymore birds!

I did lose the orp chicks last night, sadly. the others still look good
I know this is an orp thread but just wanted to post a pic of one of the "affected" birds

that is his foot up by his head, the other is straight back, head is on right side of photo, right leg next to head. if you look closely you can see the other leg next to the tail..
