The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I would be happy to send you some eggs! However, you may want to wait for the F3s.
In the F2s the results will be alot of culls:
Mating these F1 birds together will produce (in a large hatch)
Barred;Black;Delaware;Split gold/silver males;Buff Columbian; Barred Buff Columbian & Silver Columbian (the last will be pullets)
in the ratios 18:6:3:2:1:1:1
The Delawares will be in a ratio of 2 males to each female.
Select the Delawares & the Silver Columbian pullets.

What project is this Kathy?

Project Delaware!

I had a humidity hiccup earlier this evening, it dropped down to 48% before I realized the tubing from the pump to my Brinsea has come undone. It took about 15 minutes for it to slowly climb back to 65%... I'm hoping it doesn't affect the hatch much.

No pips yet... tomorrow is day 21.

I think the Barred Buff Columbian birds sound lovely.

Hi from Ga. This weekend at the Moultrie swap we're bring a couple of Chocolates.
These are 100% PURE English Chocolate Orpingtons, imported from UK, and are from the Robbie Boyd blood lines. These are Bantams and not Large Fowl; we are working on acquiring Large Fowl Chocolate Orpingtons.

Hope we see you there.

Hi from Ga. jeremy thanks for the comments. We haven't thought much about selling Chocolate eggs but are getting quite a few inquiries. We will post it when we decide on what were going to do. I need to point out that a couple of breeders are trying to down grade the breed. Those destroying the pricing on pure English Chocolates as well as on Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons.

****BEWARE THAT BREEDERS ARE BREEDING ENGLISH CHOCOLATE ORPINGTONS BACK TO U.S.A. STANDARD BLACK BANTAMS. THE END RESULT WILL BE A BIRD THAT DOES HAVE THE CHOCOLATE COLOR - BUT DOES NOT HAVE THE 'FLUFFY' LOOK NOR THE BEAUTY OF A PURE ENGLISH CHOCOLATE ORPINGTON.****

We hope everyone has a

I'm glad you're planning on keeping them pure, there's nothing like a big, beautiful English Orpington IMO.

pips&peeps :

I only know of a few people who have the chocolates, and haven't heard of any of them breeding to US bantam birds.............................

On this new breed - there is nothing definite here on what people are breeding (US to ENGL) - BUT I can say this confidently the birds that Marc at Heirloom - which are from Ramsley Orpingtons - are mostly definitely much higher quality bird than what I have seen in pictures from other breeders who have chocs. (I have the same line of birds as Marc.)

There are some breeders who are posting they are breeding chocs over black bantams. I am not sure if anyone has Pure English Black Bantams over here yet...which would lead one to assume (may not be correct) that the black bantams are US. Then again there could be some English Black Bantams here.... who knows unless the import papers are pulled. The 'tell - tell' here will be what the birds look like once they get some age.

Hard to say what other people will do for $$$$ - but I will confidently say that anyone who buys an "english" breed from me will get a quality pure english breed. I can't say what other breeders will do - but I am sure that with the interbreeding of US and English birds there cost will be lower and naturally they can sell the bird cheaper.

Thanks!

Hi from Ga. If you like Lemon Cuckoo Orpingtons and are coming to the Moultrie swap you should stop by our table. I have a feeling there might be some Lemon ( SPLITS ) available for sale.
