The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I'm like Julie, I prefer to hatch in cooler weather. However, I'm hatching Clementine's eggs regardless of the time of year !!!

I have some Orps from Julie hatching tonight! I know they are part English, although I'm not sure how much. Anyways, this little one has been alone for 12 hours, and desperately waiting for friends! I think it's Blue, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

I was curious if Orps tend to hatch earlier than other breeds? Today is day 20 and the only eggs hatching/pipping so far are the Orps. The other breeds I have are Olive Eggers, Marans, and Plymouth Rocks. Just curious.

I can't wait to take this little one out! Thanks Julie!

Thanks,

okie dokie...wouldn't have a clue how to ship a started chicken but I'm sure we can figure it out

Cheryl,

Personally I like the bird boxes from Boxes For Birds, http://www.boxesforbirds.com/ Much roomier and easier to use, also it is an elder husband and wife team so you get very personal attention to your order. Oh, and better prices too!

Thanks for posting this. I had not seen or heard of these boxes. Are they acceptable by the USPS?

Beth - I agree with Julie - I think the little chick is a dark blue. Keep us posted on your hatch.

Mia - No worries.. just wanted you to have the right names with the right person - it can get confused at times

Good Morning Julie!

Do you have any pictures of your training pens? I am thinking of building some but I am not sure what would be good. If you make them then they'll be good

I love my Orpingtons from you, thank you so much. They have such sweet dispositions.

I know this should go in the "emergencies and injuries" but I wanted to ask here first as it does pertain to one of my Orpington girls.

Does anyone have any information on what to do with a hen who has a "shut eye"? I looked in the chicken health handbook but they always jump to diseases. This girl isn't sick--I think she just injured it somehow.

Any ideas? Are there any Medicated eye drops for animals? I didn't see any at the local farm store.

Try some Neosporin if you can't get anything else. If you have Garamycin, try that.

We had been having wonderful weather here; low-to-mid 80s, zero humidity, sunny and nice breezes. Supposed to be back in teh 90s for a few days. I am soooooooooo ready for fall and winter !!! This summer has just been ridiculously hot and humid - not to mention we have had virtually no rain. From the first weekend in June until now, we have only mowed grass 4 times - no rain, no grass growth.

Good luck with your pullet Germaine - I hope her eye gets better.
