I would be upset that they were in an egg carton and a shoe box to begin with. I learned a long time ago that if you use a bigger box (I like number 7) they are less likely to get tossed into a bag with small boxes. Less trauma when they ride on a cart.

Great line-up of Charlie pics, Bama. I love the 8 months stage- they are so "neat" then.

Guess what I just got?!

My first chocolate babies! Eggs from LF Black Orps, sired by Mr. Chocolate.
The chocolate gene is sex linked. Brown chicks = female. Black chicks = male (carrying the choc gene)

Not to hijack this thread OR break any BYC rules. I have an interesting story about a one who sent out mixed breed hatchery eggs as their own purebred eggs.

I sent him a link to a Facebook group where i posted the photos and suggested he join us in discussion. He responded with I was harassing him. he will not admit he packed the eggs upside down. i am okay with the dirty eggs and the broken eggs. Just not with detached air cells from riding upside down from PA to Arkansas.

I agree with him - you are harassing him. On the - "detached air cells from riding upside down," - do you think the post office folks kept that box right side up all the way. No - I doubt it.

edited to add - In my opinion, that is a private matter and you should just stick to talking to the seller about it.

Got to agree with Kathy on the detached air cells. Mine arrive with detached air cells no matter how they are packed. Luckily I've never had one arrive broken. But they are just way rough on those boxes. They get tossed and dropped so much when they arrive at Houston, is all I can figure. And I've worked at the main sorting facility here, so I know what happens. Happily I've hatched many a detached air cell egg, but always less than half.

Glad to see how nice that pair turned out for you. They look like they are of better size than most of the current bantams. Congrats on the chicks!!!!

I'm sure you probably know this, but the best way to get the size to a LF now is to take a split and put him over the LF hens. Keep the hen size large.....

I need to go out today and get new pictures of my big chocolate boy. He is pushing a year old I think by now. Last pictures of him he was almost 7 lbs.

I'll have my "business partner" take photos of the male she is using. She told me he is not as big as the guy I kept.

I am hoping to get some fertile eggs from my smaller more bantam type birds for sale soon.

That is my next step. My Choc male that is half LF half Bantam is 3 1/2 months old and I hope he gets a lot larger by the time he is six months so I can use him on a really large black hen. I am very excited to see how large I can get some Choc pullets from the cross.
