The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I use well water come tru the filter and still had that problem, one time when i hatch the english orp had the some problem and all the chicks die in the eggs after that i never use, only rain water and im very happy ,no more problem.
What a fabulous Idea. Thank you I will try that. Makes sense

Renie........NICE!  cant wait to see what you hatch out of it..

Julie, the husbands freinds named the one that was inured...BOO BOO....had him in the cage one day, the rest came flying out to see the men..they said lynne, wheres boo boo..poor thing..it stuck.

Yes those kind of names tend to stick. My DH reminded me today how I sold his favorite cockerel he named Hoss cause he was so large.  He named one boy we had for a while Tank cause he looked like one. WE have had Tubby and Tubby Jr. nicknamed TJ.  Fun letting the names just come with something associated with the bird

That's sort of how mine get named. At first I call them something just so I know which is which.

They just... end up getting called something out of left field (for me) and it sticks. Like my Avatar was Blue for the longest time (yeah real original - and she wasn't even the only blue) then I suddenly started calling her Olive. Not for any reason I know of. And others have gotten named by neighbors just like you say. The worst was the polish rooster that one neighbor insisted was Rod Stewart. Glad he's gone. (the chicken not the neighbor - lol!)

The funniest, for me, was Dixie. I have a hatchery one that was attacked as a chick and hurt badly on one hip. She pulled through, but now at 3 years old, walks funny. One day she became Dixie for no reason that I could think of. Then a few weeks later it hit me. You know, I'm over 50 and when I was a child people sometimes did have one leg longer than the other and medicine couldn't do much about it. So those poor folks just had a shoe with a really thick sole and walked a bit oddly. Like my mothers friend, Dixie. Oh my. I hadn't even seen that woman since I was around 6 and this chicken has the same gait. I whispered an apology to the woman who is long gone but the chicken is still Dixie.

I named a rat terrier pup "Kitty Mouse" once after a wonderful old starchy dowager who smoked stogies. I adored her as a child. She had good horses, and Black and Tan Coonhounds. She died 2 weeks after I had named the pup, and I felt terrible at first. Then I realized that she would have loved to have a feist dog named after her!

Here is some pics baby Brits, wondering if they could be a blue splash or just blue. They are not liking getting their pics take. The little ones are about 5 weeks, and the other one is 4 months.

I like the lacing ViV, I think they look blue, not splash, but I'll leave that up to the experts.

Here are my baby orps. They are just shy of 3 mos being hatched on May 26th give or take a day.

Black Girl and Blue Boy

Black Girl with Broody Momma (love that she's bigger than her 'Momma" already!)

Here's my Black Boy, he's the biggest of the three. I have been worrying about their size as they are the low men on the totem pole and get chased from the feed a lot.

Here's the black boy from above for shape perspective.

All three together : )

Blue Boy alone:

Very nice lacing on that last pullet!

Wanted to share some brand new pics of the baby imports! The Whites and Jubilees seem to be growing super fast while the Lavenders ( a week younger) still have bare butts
