The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

My Jubilees have started to lay! I am so excited to start hatching them out in the next few weeks! I know for sure that the Roosters are mounting the hens. One question that I have is how often do you all "trim" there rear ends? I have trimmed my Chocolates a few times but they were not near as fluffy as the Jubilees. All of the birds you guys have posted look great! anyone have any Mottled or Spangled Orp Pics?

Nate
I would think if you cut them, you will not have to trim again till they molt. When the feathers are plucked, they grow back in in like 8 to 12 weeks.

Hey Renie, did you have to train your lab to behave with the chickens, or has he always been good for you? I think we might keep that surprise chocolate lab pup after all and a friend of mine had a yellow lab that kept killing her chickens. I don't think our shepherd will be a problem. The shepherd likes to watch and lick, but not chase.

Trader has more sense than a lot of people I know.. lol All I had to do was walk him out with the chickens... point and tell him... They Live here!... don't hurt them. He has never offered to hurt a single one.... even when young ones are loose in the front yard with him... He will sniff... but that is all. I can put a steak on top of the garbage can and leave the house with him loose,,, He can see, smell it,..and grab it anytime he wants to... but he won't touch it because he knows he is not allowed in the garbage. But if it hits the floor...... lol..... buddy that is fair game.. lol

Good to know. The way your lab acts is how our shepherd acts. I am thinking all it will take is training. Have never had a retriever before. The chickens are very important to me, so I appreciate your input. ORPINGTONS!!!! Hehe...

We Have a dog tied up during the day so he doesn't go beg hotdogs. And Spedies from neighbors grilling..it Doesnt Matter If There Is a Blizzard..my Neighbor Is Out Grilling...so The dog gets turned loose at night..I've lost count of how many raccoons and opsum he has terrorized And chased up trees..dogs are not that great at weasels thou..they are small able to fit through chicken wire hole and hide between barn boards like mice..the dogs seem to ignore them..probably too quick for them..I need a Jack Russel..I hear they will dig up weasel dens..

They had a picture box at the Panhandle show so I had one of the girls pictures made. It was a nice idea. I think the lighting needs some work as it washes out the color.. The pose was good though. You can see the good lacing.
