The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Man, what gorgeous birds! I just love Orpingtons of all kinds. Do you think my rooster in the Avatar photo looks like he's part Orpington? I think he is.

If you'd like to vote for my recipe, I'd sure appreciate it. All that is needed to register to vote is your name, e-mail address and a password. Date of birth, phone number, etc., are NOT required. Thank you:

My "kids" - and thedragonlady's grandkids

They thought I might be bringing food.. so of course Cleo is in the lead.

Figured out no food was coming so off the go LOL. I forgot to put a 5 gallon bucket in there first but his back is almost even with the top of one

They are 20 weeks. Fifi seems a bit smaller than Cleo and I'm thinking it may be because of such an injury (hawk attack) while still growing. The wing is 99% healed and looks good. I had that happen to one of my hatchery birds. It pulled through a bad slash from a critter in the night but was smaller than her "sisters" for the longest time. Body put energy into healing temporarily rather than growing.

And Vickie: Cleo's comb is getting fairly red. I'm thinking she'll be laying in a month or so.

The boy is cooing to them when there's good stuff, trying to mount some, not much, but has yet to crow. YAY.
They look wonderful Sarah..broad as the barn LOL! hes a handsom fella.. My blk orp kind of held back a little after the weasle attack..he is a huge bird like boo but would have been bigger..I swopped every peice of chicken wire for weasle proof wire..hard to beleive those tiny things can do so much damage....

Mine is crowing already ..the girls are too young yet...

I Love your birds Nava they're very Pretty! It's funny how much bigger they are than your average Bear (bird) I look at mine next to my Marans and the Marans look more like Bantams then full size birds! Thanks for sharing
Julie I really like that splash chick it's so big,
I really love all your orps!!

ETA: these pics were taken yesterday, it was like 30* but still we had the sun come out and they were enjoying it,I have a hatchery BR with them her name is Barbara she is blind in one eye and lays green eggs, she looks so small next to them. I have 2 black chickens and 1 blue, but one of the black ones is in a separate pen cause I'm taking that pullet to a show next week

Taking good pictures of lacing is pretty tough :)
Boy, it is tough. ..better camera and some classes as dee said .I was thinking, there is not one stitch of shafting on this bird..nothing that is jumping out at me anyway. I picked him up and was looking him over this day. despite his little flaws , this part is a real asset .that is ice that he is standing on.

The Buff color will always be tops on my favorite list.

beautiful birds Nava, the one picture threw me for a minute..I thought , what is that unusual pattern, a barred stripe on black orp. then I realised there was a smaller barred bird in front of that one..

LOL It really is Renie! There needs to be a photography course "Photographing Laced Varieties...for Dummies" The last part is specifically with me in mind.
I fit in the Dummy category so I need a copy of that book too! Chasing the chickens around with the camera trying to get them to strike a pose is like running a marathon in work boots!

You just made me want English Buffs! We have the poor imitation American Buff Orps... they are in the coop next to my BBS English Orps and are like their poor cousin. Must... not... get... Orps...

Nava your birds have really good type.
Robj welcome to the forum.
Galanie those are some mighty fine Buffs there. Looking forward to future photos of them.

Had my last Cataract Surg this morning early. Kind of like a drive thru. I was there at 6:30am and was leaving at 7:20. Take it easy for another week and then I am good to go. I have got to lose some weight from doing so little for the last three weeks from the last one. My husband has taken good care of me.

Sarah and Lynne,

Thanks for posting the kids !The kids are coming into bloom.Don't worry Sarah, my 50% EBOs are generally heavier than the 100% English. FiFi will catch up now that she's healed from the hawk attack. Can't wait to see photos of all my babies out there as they grow up.

I have 6 kids here who are much younger, but they are already very large too. Just hatching a very few more this spring for a couple of folks. Hopefully more pullets this time !
