The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

One thing I do when time permits is I sit down at the side of their brood tub and use a voice just for the chicks like Baby talk. I Hold a little piece of bread and they all come running and trying to get a crumb of it. Tonite and last nite the little week olds were thinking of jumping out to follow me. They are so stinkin cute. I find it works better with small groups.
I agree with you. I dont really like doing batches of 15 or more together at once. Panic is contagious. And once one chick panics, they all panic! But im definitely spending as much time as possible with them and there are a few that dont mind the occasional belly rub.

I forgot to write down the chick mixtures of grain and whatever else you guys put in them. I want to start making all of the chicks a nice little warm meal every few days.
If you guys wouldnt mind posting up your little recipes for me please. Thank you

I need to learn how to toe punch. This changing bands is so often when they are growing. If we ever get to all show up at a show maybe we can get some demostrations on a few things.

My babies love soaked Quaker rolled oats mixed in with their Medicated Chick Starter. I just pour some hot water over the oats. Let them soak for 5-10 minutes, and mix them into the starter. That moistens the starter too. Let me know their reaction !

I have questions about toe punch.
What age do most toe punch?
What are the risk of infection?
Do you treat the punch holes while healing?
I toe punch as I remove chicks from the hatcher. The trick is to make sure the little plug of skin comes out, or the hole will grow back. I've never had an infection, and I do not treat with anything.

Yes is smaller groups give each one a chance to shine :)

I toe punch as they come out of the bator as well. I am very careful about removing the tiny tag of skin... BUT... sometimes they still grow back... soo I mark the top of their heads with a black dot on the buffs.... Very easy to keep an check on the punch site that way. My brooders are kept clean.. have never had an infection.
