The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I like my imports just fine. And so do plenty of other people by the way they are selling my birds offspring on RBA.

But I would not show mine as APA birds. They are not. All this time spent talking about how NOT American type they are. God forbid somebody mistake anybody's pricey birds for American Orps...Yet you will put them up against them at a show?  What a complete DOUBLE STANDARD.

I know what the APA says. If you are going to continually emphasize how NOT American APA type your birds are, then you should NOT COMPETE AGAINST THEM. That is a double standard.

Put them up against other UK birds! They are SO COMMON now- you shouldn't have any problem finding other UK birds to compete against.
So, you've been to all these shows and know how all the other birds looked? Wow. Now kindly tell me which class any Orpington should be competing in.

Coming from ME? I don't know what that is supposed to mean. I run a charity farm.
But I would not hire Mario Andretti to design my kids soap box derby car. What about all those children that work with 4H and on their own every year to strive for APA type Orps? I know I am not the only person that finds it unethical. It is cheating. No question about it.

I don't want to get in the middle of anything (I don't show), but I just needed to add that I donate lots of our English orps to 4h 'rs, didn't realize we were helping them to "cheat"

Just thought we were sharing these beautiful birds to help them learn the breed and how to care for the animals and show what a wonderful job they did raising them. When did 4h become all about winning, maybe I am missing something in the conversation ........

Here's a picture without an ounce of controversy

A neighbor in the GA mountains was tearing down his old barn and let me have all the wood I wanted. This is how I used one of the pieces. It is on the gate into the chicken yard. The lettering I did using a wood burning tool. The planters have mint. That way, I can put a piece in my drink before my evening chicken watching.

That is Awesome Dee!

I am not bitter. I just don't have any reason to slather praise on somebody that I feel is competing unethically.
There is a small problem with your idea of English Orps competing just against English Orps...There are NO classes available for them. Have you read the actual English standard for Orps? It is actually almost identical to the US SOP, with the exception of tail set. The standards were identical until after the first World War.

Any differences from the SOP will be cut by APA judges, but do not expect the judges to reward scrawny, red birds over birds carrying a bit too much fluff.

Well lets see here I don't have any controll who brings what to the show so I AM PERSONALY RIGHT NOW & DONT HAVE ANY BUSINESS AT ALL DOING SO, PLEASE BRING YOUR ENGLISH ORPS. TO THE SHOW SO MINE WONT BE THE ONLY ONES THERE. OK now that's done, Its just funny to me why the judges pick the EO, Maybe they fit the SOP better than the American Orp.
That's not so either because i have friends on here that do good with there AO & most of them look allot like the EO. I chose to breed the EO. & that is what I am going to show. & once again no one is cheating kids, THEY SHOW IN THE JR. CLASS & NOT AGAINST US.

"I will compare mine to your, but GOD FORBID you compare yours to mine!" = Double standard.

I don't know ANYBODY that has been more adamant about how 100% ENGLISH IMPORT NOT AMERICAN their Orps are than you. Prove me wrong.

I dont care who shows what its what I raise & that is what I am showing. I wish they would have a class of there own to be shown in but we dont.
Lets stop all this beekering before we get this thread shut down, sory for all this everyone, lets get back to the Orps.
