The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Just so you realize that they will outgrow that in a hurry.

This is Max back in March. He's almost 11 months old now and is finally growing some saddle feathers.

Well lets see here I don't have any controll who brings what to the show so I AM PERSONALY RIGHT NOW & DONT HAVE ANY BUSINESS AT ALL DOING SO, PLEASE BRING YOUR ENGLISH ORPS. TO THE SHOW SO MINE WONT BE THE ONLY ONES THERE. OK now that's done, Its just funny to me why the judges pick the EO, Maybe they fit the SOP better than the American Orp.
That's not so either because i have friends on here that do good with there AO & most of them look allot like the EO. I chose to breed the EO. & that is what I am going to show. & once again no one is cheating kids, THEY SHOW IN THE JR. CLASS & NOT AGAINST US.
Roger, very good. Orps are orps.

If you are talking about the mini coop, yeah I know. They will only be there 2 weeks max. I have to finish the wire around the big coop so coons and weasels cannot get to them. By the way. Max is a cute guy.

I knew you had it all planned out. I was just teasing.

I thought I knew how big they get and just looking at Max try to get into the coop door is rather funny. Hopefully he won't get any wider or I'll have to make modifications. He outgrew his turkey size leg band a while back and that should have been a clue. But some have told me that they grow until they're 1 1/2 ! He's just now getting his big boy saddle feathers. He's plenty big in my opinion. The girls won't like him any bigger.

Yeah I am a bit worried about the door I put in the big coop. It is 14x14. I am thinking I may have to tear it out and put a 16x16 in or bigger. Last time I had chickens was 7 years ago and they were hatchery EEs. Sweet, but much smaller than the Orps. I already planned for extra big nest boxes.

My english ladies really love blueberries (the roo's always give them up to the girls, but I'm sure they like them too)... Is it crazy that I buy fresh berries for my chickens? I'd never thought about it really until I was talking to a lady (saw the berries in my cart) who said she could not justify buying them for herself at that price, and that I must really love them... I felt kinda sheepish.
