The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I think Richard Jordan imported some Black's also.
Marc probably has too.

I don't have any blacks. I hatched a really nice black split to chocolate cockerel but sold him due to lack of pen space :(

I wish I could have blacks... and some Buffs... and some Cuckoo's. One day I will have enough pens :)

Phantomrooster got that nice split boy from me and is breeding him to a few different lines of Black hens... He is hatching some great looking blacks as well as chocolates.
His blacks would be from a new bloodline sort of (Sandra Hildreth x Marc Sacre hens)

They are really nice to have :)
well i spent almost $400 on foam bators this year
i would now rather put my money into a quality built unit than a couple more cheep ones
i will be breeding my Bresse next year too so i think it will be time to step on up with the big boys & girls.
i can still keep my foam bators for doing odd stuff like muscovy ducks
i have a line on some youngsters that will be at the swaps.
at $5 each how can i say no?

i'm working on an A frame turkey tractor
i may end up building a couple more to keep different breeding groups in
they are lite enough that 2 people can move them to a new patch of grass when needed
looks to be a cheep way to house a bunch of different birds
i wish i had a huge poultry barn
but i don't so i plan on doing what i can so i have room for the birds i want need

Sprigs are a very severe fault.

If you plan on showing any of your birds you shouldn't use him for breeding.

Crossing him to hens without sprigs will produce birds that don't have springs, but genetically will recessively be carrying the genes to reproduce the trait. Breed him to any of his offspring or breed his offspring together and you will hatch more birds with sprigs.

There are no shows here Maybe I can find a black split to chocolate Roo Hmmm

I feel your pain. Wish I had a barn. Not sure where you are, but I've gotta worry about keeping up with all the frozen waterers in the winter, so I try to downsize to my best birds.

Whether or not your exhibiting him, you shouldn't use him for breeding

Sprigs are a fault in most any breed and shouldn't be propagated.

If you plan on selling birds to anyone it should be disclosed that the offspring come from a line that throws birds with sprigs as it's a severe enough issue that most don't want to breed into their line.

Jeremy,
It would be a perfect world if everyone would disclose their genetic defects. Plus recessive genes can pop up with anyones stock. I agree with you the bird should be put in the freezer.

My goodness what a bunch of silliness next time I will ask my questions amongst the less hysterical All lines carry unwanted recessive genetics Outcrossing will help These birds are Marc Sacre I am sure the English he imported were not the best of Englands best or they never would have come across the pond I already said I intend to look for a black split for chocolate though there are no shows south of Fairbanks so maybe I will use him to make chocolate sizzles or something :)
