I learned from DragonLady. She shared with me what to do. I actually give them the Ivermectin inside their beak. They drink it. (DragonLady, don't you dare share the story that popped in your head just now) Just be sure to point the syringe (without the needle!) towards the side of their mouth. Not in the middle. They can aspirate if you shoot it down the middle.You have to dose by weight and choose which one by age. When they're young I use pip ( Wazine) then I alternate Safe Guard (a goat wormer) and Valbazen. How much depends on their weight. A Vet would give you the correct dose. Or you can search for doses here in BYC. Some dose in their water. Just remember that in the summer they will drink a lot of water, but in the winter you might have to add a day if they're not drinking as much.

Grasshopper, you forgot one thing........ How often....... We worm at 2,4,6,8, 10,12 weeks, without fail. Wazine for the first 2 wormings, and then alternate Safeguard and Valbazan thereafter. Then about 4 x a year depending on the fecals we run.You must weigh mature birds to get an accurate dose.Makes a huge difference.

Reading over the last few posts about lacing I want to add one important thing that no one mentioned...
It will drive you bonkers

Have any of you tried these goat troughs? I got them at TSC. I really like them. They are easy to clean, make top feeding really easy, and less waste since they can see what's in there without having to sling the food everywhere. Between the troughs and switching to mini pellets, I have very little waste. (Don't overlook the angel in the foreground. She looks over my babies.)

I use those troughs for my sheep, but have never thought about using them for the chickens... Bet that would work well. Great Idea!

I didn't mention that you had me learn to run my own fecals. Love my microscope. How else would you know if it killed the right stuff? I will probably only worm three times this year, if the fecals look good. Well, as good as poop can look that is.

I remember in another thread it was mentioned that allowing them to eat cantaloupe and pumpkin seeds keep worms from attaching since it takes awhile to digest seeds. Never tried it and checked it out.

Doesn't work with the little ones. They jump right in and dust bathe in feed. (Hmmm, that's why mine look like bowling balls). You can only get four biggies to fit around it at a time, maybe five if they like them.

People often get us confused because we live so close to each other and have a lot of the same breeds.
I don't have any bantam chocolate cuckoo's. I do, however, have some LF Chocolate Cuckoo's.

We need to visit someday! The Silver Laced are doing well. Hopefully if the weather cooperates this weekend I can take some new pictures to post here. I think I posted some pictures of a few chicks a while back.

You need to get some silver laced Dee! C'mon what's one more color?
I'll be glad to do some swapping for some of your beautiful gold laced....
