The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

It's no secret that I love Orpingtons...I'm just shocked it's taken this long for me to come to the thread.

Just wanted to ask you experts here about when to expect my English Orpington pullet to start laying eggs? She is just shy of 15 weeks old. She is the most slowly developing chicken I’ve ever had, I understand this is normal for her breed. She is just starting to develop the silver overlay on her head and neck. She is gorgeous and I am in no hurry for her to lay eggs, I was just curious. Thank you so much!😊

She's beautiful. Where did you get her?

BTW- Any name ideas for my lav cockerel?

We nicknamed him "Big Butt" when being compared to the other boy "Nice Comb"
However, I'm not sure I like the idea of my kids yelling "Come here Big Butt" when getting the chickens in each night. He definitely needs a name.

Our next door neighbors have been calling him "Big Daddy."

All of our orp roos have had the title "Mr" Something. He's sort of Mr Sufficient or Mr Improvement. (Son of Mr Potential) There's of course "Mr Big" but not sure if I like that one, either.
I like the idea of titles for cockerels.

My three youngest birds are Lady Constance (BO pullet), the Earl of Emsworth (BO cockerel) and Lord Ickenham (SLW cockerel).

Next lot will be some barons & duchesses. 😆

Thanks!🥰
I got her from a local breeder, hatching eggs there were eight of them. She hatched and there was a second one that hatched that was a cross beak chick that I had to assist. Probably the reason that she couldn’t get out of that egg. I was able to keep her alive for only three days unfortunately. It was very sad. But I have Lacey, I know obvious name for a silver laced, my daughter named her. She is becoming one of my favorites. I call her my hundred dollar chicken! (What I paid for the eggs) She’s so gorgeous, almost makes me want to get more so I can breed her but I don’t think that’s going to happen.😊

She's gorgeous. Sorry about the other chick & unhatched eggs.

Yours is the first silver laced Orp I've seen in a long time.
The more I see of everyone else's birds, the more I want more chickens.

One of my roosters & his son, because why not.

That's a precious 'Father & Son' photo! Such a great idea.

My fav pic is more of a 'husband & wife' theme. Mr Wonderful and his fav hen Crystal. Mr Wonderful passed away but we have his son, Awesome, now.

This pic reminds me of the painting, American Gothic..... but in chicken form.

Sorry you had such bad luck hatching the eggs. Were they shipped eggs? At least you ended up with a terrific pullet.

Yes they were shipped and quite saddled. Shipped eggs are always a gamble. I have had great success with some and not so much with others. They were shipped from one side of the island to the other. I have had eggs shipped here to Hawaii as far away as Alabama and had a 14/16 hatch rate with those (silkies).
I am so happy with the one pullet I got though!:)
