Yes they were shipped and quite saddled. Shipped eggs are always a gamble. I have had great success with some and not so much with others. They were shipped from one side of the island to the other. I have had eggs shipped here to Hawaii as far away as Alabama and had a 14/16 hatch rate with those (silkies).
I am so happy with the one pullet I got though!:)
I was considering getting some Orp eggs shipped to me, but the price & then the hatch rate being typically low - just doesn't seem worth it.

Ok, I have an odd question. If I could only use one color rooster with my girls - what color would he be?
My girls are: chocolate, lavender, chocolate cuckoo, chocolate mauve, blue splash and isabel.

This thread is to post pictures and discuss the beautiful English Orps. Please, no discussion on APA standards, auctions, etc. We just want to see pictures and talk about this beautiful eye candy.

Winston and Clementine are our English Blue Orpingtons that we imported last year. I took some photos today of their oldest chicks, The O's (Olympia and Octavia), Hagrid, Rumples, and Bluebell, and thought I would share.

Bluebell - she is such a pretty little girl

What! No laced orps? 😲

It depends on your goals. A lavender will breed like a black to most of the above combos- except to the isabel & lav hen = lav chicks. You'd get some black, blue & cuckoo. Not sure about the chocolate. The disadvantage of breeding a lav is that the dilution gene would muddy your future breeding plans. EX: you couldn't tell if the offspring carry lav or not, so could stay hidden for generations and unexpectedly pop up. If you're planning on selling chicks to other breeders, avoid mixing in the lav. If you're just hatching cute chicks, it doesn't matter.

Of course..... the laced orps are seriously the sweetest roosters I've ever had. - Just saying.

Laced is coming in spring, along with a Columbian and a Crele. I'd like to find a lemon cuckoo also.
This Rooster thing would pretty much just be for me. My girls have their own yard, and I would like to keep only one rooster, but not mess the genetics up too bad if I let a few eggs hatch every so often.
Someone told me a black would work too. 🧐 So, I decided to gather opinions 😉

We haven't heard from you for a while. I hope all is well down there.

Thank you for asking. I've had a ton of stuff going on. I was without a job for a little over a month and just started a new one yesterday and am taking a quick break from training so I don't fall asleep at the keyboard. lol

There's of course "Mr Big" but not sure if I like that one, either.

"Mr. Big" reminds me of Sex in the City. lol

I like the idea of titles for cockerels.

My Chocolate cockerel is the Duke of Cadbury. :)

I've been busy with the birds the last few weeks. I took a bunch of stuff to a poultry sale and made about $1400 on what I took. It was pretty exciting for being a breeder at my first event. I've got a huge set of eggs due to hatch this weekend, and a friend is letting me borrow a Sportsman incubator/hatcher they weren't using, so I've filled it up to. I should have a nice set of White, Silver-laced, Blue, Black, Splash, and maybe Chocolate/Mauve in the next two weeks.

I got two truckloads of mulch last week and got over 1800 pounds spread over the birds pens. That is a mess I'd like to not have to do again. lol
