The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

My thoughts exactly!

Hmmmmm.....I keep mulling this around in my head. I do really love the "Royal Blue Orpingtons" concept.

Hennypenny, I am not the expert, but I think the tail set would be wrong for American shows- the judges are supposed to be sticklers for the SOP, and these English beauties are- set too high? Is that the right terminology? I would imagine once there are more of them, and people started campaigning for it, they could open an "English" division. Or, rather, a "Royal Blue" division!

Makes sense. I prefer the english birds myself. I like the "poofiness" they have over the others.

This is just me, but I'd limit the name to 100% english blood chickens only. Anything that had american blood wouldn't qualify. Just a thought. Keeps the prestige for the 100% english blood.

Hm, I don't think that the "Royal Blue Orps" have to necessarily be 100% English bloodlines, though they must exhibit English type and have English lines to a certain degree, I would say at leas 50% English blood. It's hard to say that we should limit the name to strictly 100% English birds, because then we'd only have 2 Royal Blue Orps in the US! (Joy's original birds, I don't know if there the only imports, I'm just voicing my general knowledge.)

My thought was that this could be the name of Joy's specific breeding flock, her own line. So whoever gets eggs or chicks from her would then have her "Royal Blue Orpingtons".

Like with Marans you have the "Bev Davis" lines or the "Wade Jeane" lines, etc.

Well, I love the concept of "Royal Blue Orpingtons" for my line of Orpingtons. To date, I have ten 100% "Royal Blues" (Winston and Clementine, plus their 8 chicks) !! Which I plan to take pictures of this afternoon.

I love it!!! Great idea farmboi. I saw it the other night when you were beggin for company online. heehee. But I was trying to go to bed myself so didn't reply. Also since I don't have any of these "royal blues" I don't really have a say so. But maybe now I do because I'm officially in line for some chicks!!! Woohoo!!! I have American orps already. Can't wait for my English! Gonna have to start thinkng of some very English names for them.

Or if not "English" names then "royal" like scepter and tiara and jester and jewel. Heehee

Just wanted to let you know that you can definitely show these birds.
Here is a photo of Minerva who is half English with My Charlie boy being her father. She is beautiful and Won Best Variety at the Ohio National last year. I sent her to Joy for breeding.

This is another girl I showed at that show. She was darker and they much preferred Minerva. Both were beautiful to me.

This is a black out of Charlie I showed. Not her best photo but she is a beautiful girl too

I had a blue cockerel win in Stockton CA at the Orpington National, Best Variety who was half English out of my Charlie. He was hatched by friend of mine on the West Coast and she said the Judge loved his color, lacing and type

BTW these girls were 8 months old
