The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Actually I didn't even choose them...I contacted Julie and told her what I was looking for, she picked them out.

If she would have given me a choice I would have taken all day looking at them and then figured out a way to get any and all she offered me home. I am telling you, seeing all of them in person....

I really would LOVE to have some of her blacks (my favorite color) but I am horrible, VERY HORRIBLE, at hatching shipped eggs. Maybe in the future....

I feel very lucky to have gotten them. I cannot wait to start my breeding with them, but I plan on waiting until at least the end of January. It is way too cold here already, and there is no way I way to have a brooder all winter. Every time I go out and see my American F1's I wonder what the English F1's will look like. For any that are interested, right now they look like mutts...lol! Well the males do anyway. The females have nice lacing and so far I have not had any red showing on them. This is for blue laced red Orps. I am sure that when I get the English breeding going, I will start sharing a few pictures.

Tonya - Those boys look REALLY great !!! Please keep me updated on the progress of their growth - I really love seeing all the pictures, but I really am interested in seeing how Winston's kids turn out.

I agree - seeing them in person is much better...pictures just cannot do them justice.

My thoughts exactly Julie !!

I was wondering if anybody is getting any eggs lately? I haven't had an egg in weeks !!! Clementine is finished with her molt and still has not started laying. Minerva is smack in the middle of a heavy molt and isn't laying. Matilda is pretty much finished with her molt, but no eggs from her yet. The P's - they should be around 8 months old now and they aren't laying. Petra laid a few eggs when she first arrived, but then quit and hasn't laid again. The O's will be 7 months old 12/13 and aren't laying yet (though I hope it won't be long). Bluebell is not far behind at around 6 months old and is not laying. The other 2 B's, Blueberry and Bluebonnet, are only about 4-1/2 months old and wont' be lyaing for some time. I wish these girls would get on the job and start laying some eggs. I have chicks to hatch for a few folks, and I want to hatch some more 100% English chicks. It's so frustrating !! I've been trying to be patient, but my patience is wearing very, very thin right now !!!

Come on folks - post some new pictures for us to look at and drool over !!

Shouldn't he have been DQ'd for the foreign color in the tail??? Otherwise a lovely bird; I prefer my buffs a little richer in color.

A little bit of smut is acceptable, but not desired. In Orps, its not a DQ.

Wasn't like that was the only Orp yet alone the only Buff at the show. There was somewhere around 15 Orps shown. i guess the overall color is what he was concerned more about. And ofcourse the type, which is hard to beat in the APA shows with this cockerel.

Renie - At this point, I'm willing to try anything. I'm having hatch withdrawal !! My little guy is doing good. I was able to bring him home on Friday. He had a recheck yesterday and the ionized calcium was still a tad elevated, not bad, but still.....He also had the sutures removed. I wanted them to rebandage the neck because the incision was vertical right down the middle of the neck and he tends to scratch at it. Even though they removed the sutures, I was worried about him scratching it and the incision opening up again. Do you know that they were going to charge me $30 for a small piece of casting material and a piece of vet wrap wrapped around the neck? I told them to forget it !! I brought him home and got a nice soft piece of flannel and wrapped it around his neck and safety-pinned it. It's working just fine, and was a heck of a lot cheaper !!

Yep Joy... you gotta get creative these days I swear. Good to hear he is on the mend.

I know I posted earlier to PM me for hatching eggs... You still can.. but I think the right thing for me to do is list the eggs on the auction page...I don't want to do anything wrong here... So I will be listing some once I recieve my new foam blocks and get some expert advice as to what all I need to ship them out.
