Cmon Dwain. Got plenty room for you. Will have mudbugs waiting. Oh, and stick a couple of those fluffbutts in your bag, won't you-when Joy's not looking. I'll take either of the O's or Bluebell or Winston or... I promise to take great care of them. Don't worry bout drinks. Got that covered!

Love ya Joy!

Paula - you are not helping the cause here, G/F. Now I'll be happy to send him down to you for the duration of his recovery....say 6-12 more weeks? How's that?

And you are right Tonya - I'll be watching him like a hawk !! No fuzzy butts anywhere near him !!

Now Joy, you know Gary just left after a month of healing from his knee surgery. Don't think I could take another month, much less twelve weeks. I'll go nuts for sure. So, I'll have to pass on your offer.

Dwain how about you and Joy come down once you've healed, and we'll have a big crawfish boil-with lots and lots to drink, of course?? (I'll pm you about exactly which Orps you should bring).

Alright. I've done it. I've blown their little chicken minds.

I decided to dismantle their 18" roost because they weren't using the step ladder I set out for that specific purpose. I was too lazy to build a multi-level one and I was afraid my chickens would have my grace, so I was pretty sure they would crash into every single rung trying to get down from one of those. So today took the old ones out and put in new 10" roosts with plenty of bedding underneath. My thought was that they could roost ON them without bodily harm, but they could still scoot under them, too. I also moved it away from the front door, where it's cooler, to where the heat lamp is. Pretty thoughtful of me, right? NOT!! I've got a mutiny on my hands.

They are standing on the end of the new roost to get as close as possible to where the old roosts were and searching everywhere. To the right are vast expanses of empty roost while they fight over six inches of roost and the cross piece.

I took a video on my cell phone at dusk, so the quality is terrible. I posted it here.

Joy, here's a picture of my little guy from you that crowed (sort of) yesterday.

We've been out for snow all week, so me and crew have been like this.

They look so confused, poor babies. They're creatures of habit. We think we're doing something good for them, and they just want it back the way it was.

Paula - Your plan is not acceptable. Why don't I send Dwain on down....he can recover in your new game room in the barn for the next 6-12 weeks. Then when he is FULLY recovered, I'll join ya'll for that crab boil. Just make sure you have lots of sweet tea....that is what I exist on. LOL.

Daphne - I couldn't see the picture of the roost at all

, but it sounds funny. LOL. Your little boy is looking quite nice. Be sure to keep us updated with photos.

I think that I am about to have a revolt on my hands here. My chickens haven't been out to free range for about 8 days now. The weather has just not been accommodating enough. It is supposed to be sunny and a balmy 35 degrees here today, so if the wind dies down enough this afternoon, I'm going to try to brave the cold and go sit out with them for an hour or so. I feel so bad when I can't let them out everyday, not to mention that they get very unhappy with "Mom."

Joy, I've got it all figured out. I'll have Gary take a couple more months off. Dwain can come here and hang out with him till he recovers, while I go there and brave the cold with you. Whatcha think? Just don't know about the balmy 35 degree weather, though. Highs are in the 40s this week, and I'm about to go nuts! Winter is just not my thing. I don't know how you guys do it. I talked to one of my buddies in New York yesterday, and it was 6 degrees above zero there yesterday morning. Unbelievable! And he's got chickens, horses, pigs, and all other sorts of animals to tend to. I wouldn't know how to handle that. I told him it was 27 here, and I was ready to move further south. He thought I was being a big wuss. He's 75--I'm 42. I have to agree with him. I am a wuss...

Paula - That sounds like a WONDERFUL plan !! The two boys can whine together and we won't have to hear it !!! Let them have a "Whine Off." HAHAHA.

Well, we're not used to it being this cold for this long a stretch here either !! However, I can take the cold better than the heat .... every summer I wonder why I live in the South because I despise the heat and humidity.
