The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Julie, your boys all look great! I can't wait to see how my two mature, Joy says the change should be tremendous over the next 2-3 months. Do you have any pictures of adult Splash roosters you could share with us?

Bill... must be time to invest in a sportsman so you can hatch 300 or so.. lol

I know! I guess the ole "HOLY" incubator will have to be retired. lol

Joy,

Our power went out yesterday not once but twice and it has wreaked havoc on my hatch.

We were able to get the bators hooked up to a generator but that still took awhile to get everything in place. Some of my eggs had already started to pip when the power went out and the temp dropped really quick. Today is day 21 and none of my big orps had pipped so I pulled them out and candled and all three were still alive so I decided to start surgery. So far all three are still alive, one being 3/4 of the way out and the other two are now internally pipped and breathing well.

that all make it but looks like this group may need help. All because a bus wasn't watching where he was going and hit a power pole yesterday knocking power out to almost 900 people.

Will keep you posted.

I would not do a thing. They'll be fine. IF that ever happens again, I usually run very hot water, since the water temp in the water heater will stay a steady "HOT" temp for quite sometime and soak some wash clothes or paper towels, and the heat from the hot water will bide you sometime. Plus the humidity from the towels will help as well. IF you have a gas oven you can also heat it up inside and set the bator on top. I found surgury is more likely to be too early and will cause more harm then good. I am sure you know what your doing. Hope they make it out okay. Good luck!

I have had the power go out for up to 6 hours before and not effect a hatch...its best to leave them alone....they are more hardy than you think.
