Julie, I get grumpy if I don't have my sweet tea. It's the (one of

Sorry I haven't posted recent pictures yet of my flock, my computer is currently being shipped to me from Dell. The last one went kaput before we left over the long weekend and I haven't received the new one yet. I'm really excited though, I've been using the same dinosaur laptop that my parents bought me in high school, I can't wait for my shiney new one!

Have you ever tried Green Mountains Southern Sweet Tea for a Keurig Machine?

I like it hot and over ice!

ML, the only tea I use it Red Diamond Tea Bags gallon size. In the south all the McDonalds, Captains D's have really good fresh brewed sweet tea too. Once you start heading north or to far west I think mostly you just get instant tea.

I am sure we probably have more Kidney stones down here due to heat, sweat and sweet tea.

Stone ground cornmeal, White Grits are another staple.

It is hot in the summer but no place like home

My family members get the over abundance of eggs that I don't want anyone else to hatch.

I wish we could do that but we don't have any family here, there all either in MI or FL.

Our good friends down the street already have a bunch of our chickens and get their own eggs and our other neighbor won't eat them because "they are fertile".

There are two ways to handle the over load.... One remove roosters.... two... scrabble up the extras and feed them back to the chickens. The second choice freaks brad out but oh well..The adults get great protien and I don't worry about my roos or being cheated.

Once you go North - not only is the tea instant, but you can't get sweet tea. I was in New Jersey for a few days a few years ago and I almost died of thirst because their tea sucks and that is pretty much all I drink.

I remembered to bring my camera two days in a row to take pictures of the crew and can't seem to get any really good ones. They are panting, too close, too far away, or a blur of movement. All I have to show is poison ivy from squatting in the weeds and these few pictures.

This is my favorite girl. She's smaller than the rest and lost a point to her comb in a scuffle with one of the girls. She's the tyrant of the coop, but she is so affectionate with me. She will wind herself around my feet like a cat when I'm standing still and plops herself down beside wherever I am sitting. Can't you just see the love in her eyes?

Group Shot of sorts:

This girl is my little thermometer. If it's over 85 degrees she goes PALE!

Thor swinging his head around, model-style. See why I thought Champ's comb is so awesome, Julie? Blue provided him with the scab on his comb. Through chicken wire, no less...

I can't believe they are going to be a year old at the end of next month!

Good to know I'm not the only one who prefers my sweet tea to water.

ETA, tennesseeckn I KNOW! I can't believe my babies will be a year old in just about two months. They're so grown up now, I guess I probably should stop refering to them as my babies.

You know when I first got chickens I felt weird eating the eggs...not because they were fertile, but because I knew where they came from...I knew before, but there is a difference in knowing and in KNOWING.

The very first time I hatched eggs, I bought 4 doz farm eating eggs. I got 5 chicks. Since that time, if I am buying hatching eggs, I tell the seller. I have bought some duck eggs from the chicken auction, and if I ever see bantam cochin eggs there again, I will probably pick some up, just for fun. But most of the time when I buy local eggs to hatch, they are from Katy and she knows exactly what I am gonna do.

The people I sold my eating eggs to did not care to incubate.

Once on BYC I sold someone some purebred eggs, and asked if they wanted some mixed breed eggs too. I had ran out of flat rate boxes and ended up sending her a total of 48 eggs.

I just had the ggs setting there and kept wrapping, and they kept fitting in the box.
