The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Well...prelim result is in...mareks

. Once histology comes back with verification we will have to cull the 75+ chicks I was going to give away. Don't want to chance passing this on, just not right. It is then a waiting game to see if the late vaccination can save any

. I have 2 more of my bama orps not looking right

. I may lose my Joy babies too, they weren't near the brooder but were in the same room so the dust carries the virus, they told me they were probably exposed too. I am not sure if I should just cull now to avoid getting more attached to these babies just to have them wither away 3 months from now. For now...we wait for final report.

Eta - again, this DID NOT originate with Joy or Julie's birds...they are just the unfortunate victims

Krista.... I am soo sorry you are having to go through this. I just can't imagine. Sometimes the vaccines go bad and are to blame for spreading viruses. Need to check with the person you got the sick birds from.

<hugs>

I talked to state vet and lab. They said bad vaccine would just not be effective. They said they most likely caught the virus before the vaccine could protect them...there was a mareks issue on the premises/birds previously so the vet said bad biohazard policy...person deals with exposed birds that were not culled, maybe unknowing they(birds) are carriers, go to brooder/hatchery to put orders together...sound theory IMO. Will be dealing with this off board when final results are in and hopefully situation can be rectified....somehow

at this point I don't know HOW they can fix all this heartbreak...not even touching the monetary losses....which I don't even want to talk about...the whole situation makes me sick

I am curious at this point... Do Show people vaccinate their flocks?? Dog people are required to vaccinate for rabies and can't go near a show if they have anything contagious like Parvo at home for a certain period of time. AND if someone sells you vaccinated chicks.. will that affect the validity of the tests??

I took my Joy babies outside for the first time today. They were not impresssed with the camera by the way but did tolerate it. lol

There probably aren't really any words to make you feel better, I just hope you get to save a few of your babies.

Thank you, I hope to save a few too...tried vaccinating but not sure if it will help. Waiting for them to let me know if my efforts are in vain...

Yep, you never know what you can pick up at a show.
