I'll hopefully get some pictures of my babies again soon, they're growing up fast, they'll already be 3 months old by the end of November. They're filling in nicely, I've got my eye on one Blue pullet in particular who I think is going to be stunning.

I do wish though they had a deeper Mahogany color, like some of the Heritage RIR strains here in the States.

From what i understand its hard to get the dark red color in self red birds.

So they're not genetically Red Columbian?

I wonder how you could deepen the color?

Self Red birds(completely restricted aether by Columbian, DarkBrown or the mix of them) have more difficulties to be as dark as show quality R.I.R because what makes R.I.R so dark is not only Mahogany, but undocumented recessive feather melanin enhancers.

Self Red Birds where produced after Self Buff birds, this can also mean some of the Diluting effect of the need it restrictors(need it to fully restrict/Colored their tails) can be antagonizing with mahogany.
