The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Karen, the birds you have are the product of both Joy's and Julie's line, my hens are directly from Joy and my rooster is from Julie.

I have to agree that their lines mix well, I've got proof in the babies that are growing out this year, they get prettier and prettier every day!

Also, the English Orps are a bit looser feathered than their American cousins. You'll notice as they mature they have quite a bit of fluff, don't let all of the feathers fool you though- there will be substantial weight to your birds underneath all that fluff. My Black hen Thelma is easily pushing 10 pounds right now and like her dad Winston is as broad as a barn.

This is one of my favorite fluffy butt pictures.

ok - I was not sure which auction you might be referring to.... yes this auction does not have good looking birds at all. I am not sure if he has buffs or lemons with no barring... either one is bad!!

On another note - there is a seller also on eBay that is using pictures of UK birds from UK sites. I cannot believe eBay will let a seller 'fraud' a buyer like that.

When i reported these people... eBay told me since they were not my photos - nothing they could do. Now if the person in UK contacted - they would look into it....

Sad........ just Sad........

One of the sellers is even using a picture with a copyright trademark!!!

Smething elese I dont agree with is addvertiseing under someone eleses name, you see a lot of this on ebay, in my openion someone should not do this, If you want to tell them you got your start from Tom, Dick or Harry 2 years ago thats fine, but dont tell them this is there birds because they are not they are your birds, I'v seen this on here to & it makes the breeder look bad when someone else says this is there birds & only to find out they were bought from Tom, Dick, & Harry 3 years ago, & who knows what elese somebody has breed into them a year or 2 back, just my openion, Rebel

, ok to say what the original lines were 'supposed' to be as it's clear they weren't purchased from the original breeder/importer. (I think I've done that in the past, unintentionally

Oh yeah, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!

I have seen that too, and I bet we are talking about the same ad on EBay. I contacted EBay about it months ago, on several occasions, and nothing was ever done. I also e-mailed the person with the listing and asked for pictures of their birds...never got a response from either EBay or the seller.

Don't you mean TERRY BRITT of Twisted Feather Farms?

Probably!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took the info over the phone & I am hard of hearing. Thanks

If you have buffs from or closely linked to Terry Britt and the selection has been good then you have Orpingtons of the very best quality as bred to the APA Standard. They can and should be massive but are a very different type than the best of the UK type birds. Your buffs should be large, long and kind of angular. Straighter backed, longer bodied, maybe not near as full in the breast for flesh or feathers as the UK type. Think a somewhat rectangular block of a bird. Look at Jeremy's photos since he's put up some great ones and you have some of his youngsters. Basketballs in one word so very, very different to the buffs you have. I am going to try to upload a good photo or two of UK type buffs of the sort that when exhibited score well according to the UK Standard. It's simply one breed being bred for two very different looks. Our APA Orps might be considered more farm or utility type but those you have should be beautiful examples. Pictures?
