Over a year ago I stated that the UK and American were different breeds. These photos prove it. We wished folks would start showing their British Orpingtons as such.

We acquired a Lemon Cuckoo British Orpington today. She will be mated to our Greenfire male. We will also be exhibiting them this year as British Orpingtons so folks can see first hand the differences. What would it hurt to show these for what they are? Will have to wait till we get home tommorrow for photos. This pullet is an import herself.

They're not a different breed, they're just bred to different standards.

That would be like saying Barred Rocks bred here in America were a different breed from Barred Rocks bred in Europe.

Ha ha Jermey that is him. I will let you know when they get fertile. I have a incubator going already for a few weeks just testing.
I do find myself staying out way longer than I need to sometimes just looking. My DH likes to help me make decisions on them too.

I have yet to see ANY orpingtons shown in the US look like the above pictures. Don't think even most of the Imported ones are of that quality and if they are not going to look like that no point in showing them to the British standard then is there!

Jeremy I am just so excited to see how they look by 12 months much less 18 months. These are still mere babies here just about to turn 9 months. I remember Charlie at that age and the difference a few months makes is awesome. We may have to swap some eggs so I can get some of your pretty blues off of Neville

I posted some information and the pictures only to help a person newly interested in the breed understand what sort of stock they had acquired. The Original Poster had asked that this thread not be used for discussing SOP differences etc.. I'm sure that there could be interest in such a thread started as it's own entity but not as a sideline as to what was asked for in regards to this one. In this thread we were asked to simply discuss and enjoy, which many of us do, the UK style of Orpington. I did not post the photos with the idea of contributing to any controversy that may exist about the importation of any breed, Orpingtons included, that may be bred to a different ideal than what we might be doing here in North America. It's not just Orpingtons folks, it's just that's what we get to see right now. Dave [email protected] email much better than PM.
