The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I love looking at all the Orps! All the adults are sooooo beautiful! But, I am enjoying my wee little ones too. Can't help but to share pictures of my one week old Gold Laced Orps Please forgive this new Orp mom

Here's one of my little "chicken nuggets". First @ 2 days for comparison

Same chick contently sleeping @ 10 days...emerging tail and feathering in...perhaps a pullet (?)

Can't help myself

Here is the same little nugget, side view, trying to ignore camera clicking.

Thank you! I'm trying to muster all my will power not to get attached until I decide which ones to keep. Half of them will have to go

The one in the pictures I can't help but to love already. I hope she's a keeper.

Why do they have to go? How many little ones do you have?

I have 12. Our coop will only comfortably hold 6-8 since it is 4x 8ft. They will free range while I watch them in the mornings and early evenings when they are not in their protected pen (12 x12). The problem occurs when my husband and I travel on the weekends. They would be confined 3 days at a time, every once in a while, in a 12 x 12 pen. I knew this though before I got them. I was hoping that by getting 12 I could get a good roo:hen ratio. I could only get them as a straight run. The extra little guys will have to be re-homed or culled

I'm months away though from having to figure it out. We're on 9 acres but it is unprotected and we have fox, racoons, opossums, neighborhood dogs...We have a stable near the back of the property, but I converted it into my art studio. I wouldn't mind sharing it with them, but my husband does not want to convert it back since it was an investment to make the changes. Can't blame him. Ugghh! In the meantime, I will enjoy all of them. I plan on painting an oil for my kitchen of all 12.

What do you guys think of these pullets? They are 12 weeks old. Are their tails coming in correctly. Seems like the splash's tail is slow to grow. I have a thick skin so you can tell me what you think. Also, if it's too early to really evaluate them, let me know that too.
1. This girl has the best lacing, but she gets picked on a lot and doesn't have any tail feathers yet.

2. Splash

3. Blue

They're beautiful. The first one is striking...but I'm not a breeder just a big fan of Orpingtons.

Keep me in mind when you're rehoming.

I'd love to see the painting when it's complete!
