New to chickens but fell in love with the Englishs orps Bought BBS part English Orp eggs which will be arriving later this year after the heat.. Would like to read about the EO's and Orps in general and features in a quality EO chicken.I have written down any critiques I have found on others photos ..but have only in reading about 200 replys on this thread seen the book (bible of Orps) mentioned in abbreviation not the title.What is its name ? Love all the photos of the breath taking chickens here .What a nice way to spend a blazing hot inside air cooled morning looking and dreaming

roxannemc, there are some really good very old books that are free for your kindle or other e reader that are so interesting and differences between english and american..if you go to cornell free library search hubbards poultry secrets, orpington a fowl for our times by william cook , shell to showroom plus more, some of them go into details that you do not see anywhere else such as how stringy or thin neck feathers are considered a fault then and now....to keep young show birds in top form , you have to keep those birds on a very regular worming cycle..in depth discussions about color breeding ect....very interesting reading ..todays english has evolved to look a bit different than a lot of the early pictures in the books, but a lot of those birds especially in hubbards poultry secrets, could probably still win today..I LOVE these english imports...unbeleivable in person how well put together they are..people say they are little...they are h u g e... i thought maybe i accidently ordered some ostrich eggs, they were baseball size.. i cant get enough of them..the regular ol black orps will always be my favorite thou..

... I have found the new English imports to be more fragile, especially the Chocolates (and the Gold Laced)....

rockinpaints, would you mind elaborating please? I have 12 Gold Laced Orps and would like to know more. So far, knock on wood, they're doing beautifully. What do I need to know?

Hi Dee I will PM some information on them shortly. Please remember this is in my unprofessional opinion only of my own experience with the newly imported English lines and not necessarily the 'normal' for all imported Orp chicks. But I can give you information as to what has taken place over the past year of raising them, what I did that helped and what didn't (but I still

love them..... that's why I recently imported different lines of my own...Eggs that is

)

Yes I will, and I will share the experience with anyone who is the least bit interested in doing the same. What I will say is that it was much more expensive than I had originally figured (I was thinking about $2000 but it ended up about $4000).

Now the waiting game to see what happens in the incubator...........
