The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

its the same in orps, and australorps..no reason to throw away a nice hen..my husband has a small flock of aussie egg layers ,a lot of them have the purpling..in one of those very old orp books it was talking about it being from barred birds in their past ,some kind of purple barring.thou it doesnt look like barring thats what he claimed it was.. and the guy said it was something that the breeders had to contend with..those aussie hens are so dependable in feb for breakfast eggs that husband sure doesnt care..the orps and aussie rooster do not have it..just those aussie freeroamer hens..im not sure what the answer is, but seems like the guy in that book had a remedy by breeding in dull black hens or something like that into the line, i will see if i can find that again.copy that page..dont quote me on that dull blk hen thing, thats probably not right. i will get that page..it was late one night i read it in my million poultry book collection in the kindle..

Yes I would like to see that please.

so much fun to tour the farms,Its my favorite thing..such beautiful birds to see..I just LOVE it..its my decompression chamber after long shift working hospital..

Renie, im getting close to that page..just as soon as I find it , I will copy paste it here..im pretty sure it was hubbards poultry secrets..long time ago he won lots and was respected breeder..its a lost art today, he also covers faults such as twisted neck feathers, correct, incorrect breast types and points to deduct ect...all of the answers no one seems to be able to answer today ..it fills in a lot of gaps...great info about the win win for poultry keepers and orchard growers , the birds help naturally clear a lot of pests.. Cornell free library has all of these books for free to downlaod to kindle that is also free for PC.. you can buy some of the copies at UOC. too, and she has a couple that are not avail in cornell such as white orps..talks abouit feather shafts being silver white, dorking ancestry , very interesting stuff.. my problem is I downloaded too many of these free books..Im like a little kid with questions and no one had the answers..but lot of these old books did..you sure wouldnt want to use some of thier old timey remedys but hubbard book just used garlic, he said no worming and parasite control, no show birds...i just get lost in those old books.there is just about every breed represented from books about RIR to several books about orps..one little old lady wrote one of the best books I have ever read about her experiences showing poultry and how she accomplished what she did, thou lot of men felt threatened by her..great read and plain advise easy to read and understand how she did what she did..

Jeees I cant wait till I can turn this pager back in..I just got home got about 3 hrs sleep and they want me back, thank God Im only covering for somone on vacation in that dept..I would get sick at this pace constantly..you have to be a real type A behavior to do this..like the money, hate the pager.

I have about a dozen chicks growing out, and I am beginning to think every one of them is male.
