The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I buy my feed from Poulin... They offer a layer and an egg maker. I buy the egg maker for the adults.... grower for juvies... and non medicated started for the chicks... This seems to work well
for me.. and yes they get treats every day.. sometimes veggies, sometimes fruit, and every day.. they get whole grain bread slices.

That is great news :)

Mine start on layer soon soon after they can go outside without a light. I have found that keeping them on medicated chick start for too long can lead to deficiencies, and I cannot get un-medicated here except for Flockraiser. (and its really over-priced)
True, Flockraiser is kinda pricey, but a good choice of feed, its what mine gets most of the time along with veg. & green grass.

Its perfect of you have a small flock. No animal by-products in it either.
I use it when I can, but its $17 a bag here. When you have as many waterfowl as I do, its easier to just make my own than pay somebody $6 per bag to mix it for me.

pickled chicken, congrats on the hatch going well...
and roger, there is nothing like the good old fashion green grass and other greens, puts such a nice shine on the birds...we call it doctor green..

the lady in england whom nellie hatched eggs from said something so interesting, but i still dont fully understand what she meant...she said that the star gazing or moon gazing was caused by vitamin deficiency..i would love for somone to explain what she meant by that..i think it woukd help a lot of people especially with the imported orpingtons who maybe need a supplement..?

I think she was talking about a Vit. B deficiency that cab be caused by medicated feed. That's why I feed crushed Calf Manna to everybody.

This makes me nervous because I do feed medicated to my 14-16wks old pullets. Bought the 50lbs bag when they are little chicks but with only 3 birds a 50lbs bag will last LONG time.
