The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

How cute!! I know what you mean, I have actually heard peeping in the trash can

.

G'Morning all! She's a bit young, but any guesses as to color? BTW: This chick hatched 2 days after her hatch mates, I thought we were all done and almost buried the eggs before she came! Such a nice surprise!!

And WHAT is up with this dual colored beak?

they are just so wonderful nellie!!! i always open this page up with the coffee in the morning for a smile...BEAUTIFUL..he looks like hes going to be nice and wide.i was hoping you would post a pic of these....
I have seen some pretty strange unforeseen things crop up in a blood line (even from well know breeders). Color wise and type as well. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about the breeder right away, but would talk to them about your concerns. They may have some insight for you, heck take a look at these pics of the whites we imported this summer. For the most part type is good, all are fluffy with short legs:

Now take a look at this boy in front, he kinda looks like a Cornish

, no fluff, muscular with long legs and a broad chest.

Absolutely no disrespect to the breeder. He is a cutie with personality plus!

Thank you, and happy morning to you!

I like the whites! Do they have feathered shanks? Will that go away like it does on some chocolates?

Yes, that is my understanding is that it should (or usually) goes away (or sometimes......

). I guess it is not uncommon with Orps from the UK as the Cochins were used in a lot of the colors that were created. Some of the chicks have slight feathering and some have non at all. Same with the adults even through various breeders and importers from what I am learning.

Is this what others are finding as well?

No sign of feathered shanks, or stubbs on my Buff Os from Marc.

Those are substantial feathers, I don't think they will go away.

Yes, you could be right on this little guy. Oddly he was the only white with any feathers on his legs and all of my whites are from the same breeder
idunno.gif
. Had I culled him and not posted his picture no one would have ever known......
It is not uncommon but unlikely that you'll see them.....Most of the time one will not see a breeders undesirable traits on these new birds (or any actually), unless you are like me and have to have the 'first ones off the bus'........

im wondering..since whites are in such a critical state, could it be worked out in a few generations..the origional orp breeders did that..maybe using some existing us whites?
a
lot of people working really hard on these resorting to adding wyandotte with yellow leg ect...just because of the sad state they fell into...im just wondering why this couldnt be worked out..if you dont ask...you dont learn
th
e man who worked the most on the whites in their creation said it took him 5 generations or so to loose the 5th toe from dorking...
