The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

OK, now someone has me thinkin..........So, just for fun, is this a pullet or roo? She/he is 24 weeks. I always thought pullet ( I have never seen her crow or lay an egg so no help there).

He is a Rooster. Look at the hackle feathers. They have sharp tips and are already glossy just like a roo. He should begin developing his shiny dark saddle feathers soon. I def dont agree with those of u saying pullet and he will be crowing in the next month. Also he looks like he is a keeper and is gonna be a very beautiful rooster.

I have to disagree with you if we are talking about the blue. That is a pullet. I have been raising blues for long time and I have never had a cockerel with lacing on the feathers on the back . At six months if it was a cockerel it would have more comb and it would be at least partially red I think

Example. Here is a 6 month old pullet and cockerel

This cockerel is actually five months old here. The cockerels dont have the same type pattern around the neck or on the backs

I still think its a roo as hackle feathers r too long and pointed for a hen. I think he is just gonna b a late bloomer and will eventually get the rest of his roo features. Not trying to argue but time will tell and Im sure the same bird can b reposted a month from now and we will have our answer. I have a roo named ostrich that feathered in exactually the same as this one but he is just now getting saddle feathers that confirmed he is in deed a roo. Some birds r just retarded in thier development and r late bloomers. I havnt seen a hen with such long pointed and glossy hackle feathers.

Oh this is good!

Now I have to keep a very good eye on this one to see if it is visiting the nest as some of the pullets are laying, it is for sure not crowing. I'm still sayin pullet.....

Julie, that pullet is just beautiful. I would love to have a flock full of birds just like her.
