The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I just played catch up. Wow, what some pretty and HUGE birds. Everyone has some nice stock. I love the GL and Jubliees.
I have thinned my flock going into winter. It amazing how getting rid of 8 English Orps will make such a huge diffence in the feed bill. Geeze these jumbos eat so much. I dont know how some of ya'll do it. I cant imagine feeding a large flock like some of ya'll have!!!!

. Mine is Muffin.

You're a Southerner. Only in the South does one use food names. Some of ours are Biscuit, Sweetie Pie, and Shuuuuga (sugar for the Yankees). These names are for three of the boys because they've been sitting in my lap since they were babies and still want to do so, but now they have to take turns. I really need to get a picture of them doing that.

Aveca, how about names like Zeus, Thor, and Hercules?

One of my favorite hens is named Shuuuugger. She thinks shes the queen of the flock and bosses everyone she can. She'll even mount one of the other ones just to be mean. Often, she'll nonchalantly and quietly saunter up behind a low ranking unsuspecting pullet and POW!! right in the kisser, so to speak. It's mean, but the way the victim jumps 4 feet in the air from surprise makes me laugh every time. Why I named her Sugar I'll never know, cause she's only sweet to me.

If these boys would hurry up and grow tails, I could pick the two I'm keeping. The rest of the boys have homes waiting for them. At this point, I'll not just need 401 K's, but, I'll have to build a retirement home! How much longer?!? If they don't have tails by Thanksgiving....well you can just imagine what my husband has suggested with these "turkey" sized birds.

50lbs in nothing.. hahah I buy 8 bags of egg maker, 3 bags of grower, 1 bag of starter, 1 bag of gamebird starter, 1 bag of goat food, plus.... 5 bales of shavings bi-weekly for right now.. not including oyster shell, treats, greens, and hay.

I was really happy that the price of wheat seed went back down. It went from $15 to $18 then back to $15 for 50 pounds.
Gotta have that pasture, and it comes in really handy when I just can't get to the co-op til after I let everybody out for the day.

One of the summer hatch that a guy passed up because he said she was a roo:
