The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Do you know of anyone with Black Orpingtons on the west coast? Looking to add black Orps to my flock. I live near Seattle and have the worst time hatching shipped eggs from the east coast.

Harry,

MSHUGHY1  posted this pic a few pages back, I moved it up for you to see.

I have the same issue!!! I bought a choc trio from them and my roo is barred for sure. I haven't contacted them yet thinking it would change but he's actually getting more barred. Let me know what they say, if they ever do.

Harry and the others would know more about it than I would, But If I were to guess, I would say , lot of birds in the background breeding of these orps, some maybe a long time ago, those genes can kick to the surface..somewhere in the background may be some cuckuo

ty! Aveca! Does seem to me like Barred to me. I may be wrong! I am going to stick to it and see what happens.

Chances are it is a mottled gene generally cuckoo males would not have dark legs but there are exception to that rule and read what Nicalandia wrote in the thread on Ameraucana Projects. PM him and he may be able to give you a genetic answer as to what the rooster is carrying.

the Cuckoo gene is a dominant gene so it cant be hidden in a black bird, or any of the dilutes of black, to me it looks like those are stress bars on the feathers.

As Hurricane Sandy looks like it might head towards those on the East Coast, I am wishing everyone to stay safe.

This is sweet. I haven't seen the news, but everywhere I go today people are talking about the big storm headed our way. I am really worried for my chooks and goats.

Oh, and whenever I put stress and ar in the same sentence, it has nothing to do with chickens. ;)
