Here are the babies a week old yesterday and so I took their pics again yesterday so I keep up with their increase. They are heavy.

I hope they have good lacing. This was a trial breeding to see . Black male over splash that carries good lacing gene. The basket they are in is 5 inches tall and they are not standing up all the way

In a couple of weeks you'll have to photograph them next to the 5 lb bucket...

They do look like sweet gum balls but I am not sure. Just something I found at a store to make a fall arrangement out of.
I am just hoping for good lacing on these cuties.
I have three more to put in the hatcher this morning. Hoping they hatch.
I have another breed pen set up with a blue and splash. I went out yesterday to check for eggs as I had got my first one yesterday and saw the pullet pecking at something. She had layed a softshell egg and had eaten part of it. I shooed her a way and got it up. I put a marble egg in its place. I am hoping she doesnt start egg eating. I really need some chicks off her. She is huge and the male I have her in with is huge too. I have his father and he is much large than the father. She is largest of my splash. I have a couple blue hens that size. Trying to get them all up to the mamoth size

Very nice chicks Julie, Love the color, I have hatched off 4 so far, 3 blue & 1 splash but they wont be still long enough to get a pic.

Roger, i am so happy for you. I know exactlly what your talking about on them being still.
I have been out working in the pens today trying to work on nesting boxes. YOu should see me using a saw and drill. My DH says he loves a woman who can use tools. I am so happy having some baby chicks again. Have I said that before. I did bump my head though. I trying to be careful since I am still on blood thinners for a while longer
