The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Renie, with all these birds coming to NH from the south. You might need to get started on long johns for those southern birds!!
Smart A#*! That is an English bird who has more feathers and underfluff than any SOP bird has ever imagined. He might need a fan come February.Socks might appeal to him though...argyles of course.

I was thinking the same thing. Brrrr to the chickens who have not acclimatized to the NH winter. He is quite the beauty. I hope I have gotten the black and blues from Marc in enough time. They have been here for 6 weeks and I sure hope they get them soon. Winters are brutal here.

Delisha your welcome..I learned that way too.

Renie. That's a nice cockeral. You will enjoy him..Dee did a good job raising them..

Vickie, nothing like some luscious golden buffs to brighten my day..spent too much of it at Dr's. Today..so these pictures are a treat..
Aveca..I hope you are well..

All my 100% EOs have required much less heat from hatching than the SOP birds. You can notice that their down is much thicker as chicks, and they move away frmo the heat much sooner.Just watch out for the combs on the males, even though the combs are smaller than the SOP males, it would be a pity to freeze one.

The barn they are in is dry so the comb freeze should not be an issue. They free range all day and I am interested to see how they like the deep snow. They did not seem to mind little piles of it so far. I will have to watch for sure during the day. Even is nasty sleety weather they seem to like it out. My other group is gone when the door opens and I rarely see them all day. The younger ones still hang out more. I have not let them forage in the woods yet. I am not sure how good they are at predator petrol. I am contemplating getting a LGD just for the Orpingtons.
