The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Khakis, at least mine, don't seem to mind one way or another. They will just lay an egg anywhere the mood suits them. My Blue Swedish however ruts out a nest in the bedding of their coop and lays her eggs there. I have 17 young Cayugas that will start laying in the next few weeks but don't know yet if they nest or not. Mine all seem to lay during the evening or early a.m. before they are let out for the day.

I wish mine will lay in the same spot everytime lol. I have a new layer that has laid an egg in the pool twice and 1 to 2 times out of the pool in plain site, but they are soft shelled. First one was a soft shell in a hard shell, next one was soft shell in a soft shell, and the other 2 were soft shelled

Are you sure they are getting enough calcium. Try putting out some oyster shell in a little dish so that they can get it if they want. Soft shells usually indicate not enough calcium.

hmm. still no egg since. maybe I was wrong. maybe it was a super duper extra large chicken egg with one yolk, that tasted ducky Haha!

I've looked everywhere and no egg. unless I have an egg eater. I need a critter cam!

I am new and I have a few questions probably many more
My sister is bringing me 3 Khaki Cambells at Christmas time.
She is also bringing me 6 chickens.

Can you build a house they will house both chickens and ducks?
Or will one if them not use the house.

Also the best watering pool for ducks. I am trying to not have a water mess in my small area.

I house both my chickens and ducks together. We are seperating them in a few weeks but mostly because housing them together is causing problems with the broody hens. We have a coop that looks liek a shed, and have a top srea with a shelf and perches for the chickens, the Ducks stay on the bottom. nesting boxes in both areas.

So long as they have plenty of room there should be no problem. However, keep your eyes open. I used to keep my chickens and ducks together but once the male ducks reached maturity they became interested in any female that was around, duck or chicken. My rooster had another idea about what was right and what was wrong. So, to keep peach I had to move the ducks into their own coop and run. They do occasionally range together but even then there are issues. So, be ready to keep them apart if problems arise.

My ducks stay with my chickens, but we have no males of either species.

The ducks (Pekin and a Swedish) both use the same nesting box on the floor. Every once in a while one of the chickens will use it too, though for whatever reason they prefer to use the bottom of the 35 gallon trash can I used to store hay in.

My newest Swedish and my KC are both 19.5 weeks, so I'm hoping for eggs any day now from them.
