OK, so the ducklings are almost 4 weeks old now. They are getting some feathers in, and one has much lighter feathers than the other 2. Does this mean anything as far as drake or not? The one with light feathers also has light feet and bill.

The lighter feathers is just a lighter color phase. There are basically light or dark Campbells. Around 12 weeks drakes will develop a pair of curled tail feathers and about that time or a little before their heads will become darker than the rest of their body. They also rasp instead of quack. Any ducks with a defined quack are females which you may notice around 8+ weeks or so.

The bill shape is very very subtly curved in females, and mire "straight" in males, Altho that is rather difficult to see. Much better to wait for voices and drake curls and bill colors. Or an egg! LOL

im trying to attach pics with my phone....will see how it works! My babies are about 7 weeks, im dying to see if i get at least a pair! Would prefer a trio and would have a quad in a perfect world. Lol! They are in with the chickens for now.

IM SO UPSET RIGHT NOW!/img/smilies/hit.gif

My DH and I took Coco(kc 16days) and Pendleton(the 17day gos.) Out for their evening slug fest with the 7mo. Pekins, and we where watching something the pekins were doing (they were all in front of us, I turned around and picked something up at this time my DH turned my way and took a step and the Coco ran right under his foot as he was setting it down and he crushed her pretty good,he didn't put his full weight down and he didn't kill her she has a tear under her wing and the lil bone is visible. DH is beside himself, and I feel so bad for her too. She is not herself right now, and im so afraid im gonna lose her. the wound is under her wing and it bled but is not bleeding now. She has pooped and drank a lil bit of water. I have them covered in a nice quiet place now, and I really am hoping she will be ok. Just don't know what to think?

Anyone have any thoughts? (she is also peepin back and forth with her buddy)

Prayers please

Thanks,

T.
Oh, I'm so very sorry! I will be praying for you all!!

So KCs were bought from over stocked brown mounds warming each other covering most of only one tub (half a dozen clean tubs unuseds), on mark seventh, and now by everyone else's mine seem three weeks behind (told by rep that sounds like i did everything right, especially as scovys had for almost a year started getting symptoms suddenly also, and those i raised late fall on co-p chicken only feed).. i just tried cutting long hole so they can have water but not the loud mouth spaz party that only one does so wondering if its only female and just mallard duck duck, as non quackers yet.. just dabble head dip and play in her splashes. Suppoed to get some free coupons for trouble of. flock raiser is specific for short term meat birds read, but rep did say all their feeds are usable for them, they make "dumar" and "manna pro" too, and I've used those no prob but too rich, but just apparently always have bad luck trying purina brand products and animals gotten physically ill in some way (working as a vet asst for over three years, and at rescues ect, only purina one was unproblatic, and added BHA and others were then found toxic sourses ect..). So ill be selling or giving this cripple creating feed away. my ducks on ground to powder (remixed when giving to), plain niacin, and poultry drench, aded to water to supplement "dumar" (gives bad poops same as did when fed to leghorns before, but otherwise working, with or without supplements) that can smell and see different even though made in same place, and my ducks actually want to eat this over their bedding (unlike the flock raiser that they'd eat some of only after taking in then barfing back up as many wood chips as they could choke down). If this is just usual problems with KCs or mallard breed ducks, I'm considering going back to just my mess free easy keeping quiet scovys.

Thank you both for the info! I'm anxious to know the sex of them. Hopefully a month or so left!

I have three 2 weeks in age behind yours. I'm hoping for 3 girls. Two are lighter in color. I'm so anxious to find out what they are that I'm already trying to listen for who quacks first

I can't wait to see how yours turn out and then see if ours do the same:)
