I use an electric mower, so no pull cord, even though I have frightfully long arms. (Fortunately, I'm also tall. Otherwise, I would look like a monkey.

) And, my weedwhacker is cordless. I can't always finish the job if the battery dies, though.

Has anyone seen jeaucamom today? I'm going to have to PM her to make sure everything is okay. I know Pati came through like a tornado, but she had lots of chores planned for today.

eta - I tried to find a pic of that thumb. No luck. It was so black and swollen! It hurt worse than when I broke my arm. (Of course, then I was probably in shock, so maybe it's a bad comparison.)

It's thundering outside.. And lightening too. Earlier tonight, when the rain had stopped, I was outside (smoking.. I know, I'm bad, but at least I don't smoke in the house). Anyway, the sky was clear, and the air was warm,and it smelled springy out there. The gras is starting to get less brown, and I could hear frogs. Signs Spring is coming ahhhhhh. In the distance, I saw lightening. Mind you, this was 3 hours ago. So,it reminded me of something.
I'm going to tell a story. ( If the power stays on)

Once upon a time, I lived in a different state, near the beach, in a touristy area. We used to come down this way to go camping. Hubby (at the time), daughter, and my little brother, who is 11 years younger than I.
One year, it seemed every time we came down to go camping, there would be a thunderstorm. Brother and I would be awake in the tent, husband and daughter snoring.We would see the lightening,and start to ready the tent for the upcoming storm. We'd wait, and wait, and wait. It always took at least 2 hours for the storm to hit.
One time in particular, the storm was very violent. A story was in the news a short time before about campers who got struck by lightening- a story I knew nothing about, but my wonderful little brother told me all about it.
So, here I am, worried that we will be struck by lightning. I thought of rolling the husband out of the tent and covering him in tin foil. Little brother voices a worry about lightening hitting a tree and starting a fire.
The rain finally came, and hit hard. Tent was leaky ( of course). We all piled into the car. I figured all was well, because with everyone already in the car, we could drive out if there was a fire.
Then, darling little brother decideds to wonder out loud what would happen if lightening hit a tree, and the tree fell on us. I'm not normall paranoid, but....

We all ran into the nearest building. A nice, strong cement building. All of God's creatures had the same idea as we did. Every frog and bug from miles around was in the mens room with us.

My wonderful dog thinks that any visitors that come here are his, and he can jump all over them with no problem, but some people just see him as a large dog, and the postman keeps refusing to deliver due to "Dog at Large", despite my assurances that he is on a lead and can't reach him. He is good with chickens but I still would not trust him if they make sudden movements, and it would be awful if there was ever an accident.

So my plan for the summer is to finish off constructing this little area and start the grape vine trailing over it. lol..... so much to do..... and lots of disasters I am sure, but we live and learn.

Your idea for a pergola sounds amazing...now I'm jealous, and wondering if I have room for one somewhere!

Morning all, Ahhhh......my favorite tool...(wipes a tear)...My Grandmother had a medium size red handle hammer as long as I could remember, kept in a kitchen drawer and guarded as if gold plated. It had a sense of mystic to it. I , for some rediculous reason was fascinated with this hammer. When my DGM passed away and they were clearing out her home I asked for and recieved this treasured Tool. Now at the risk of soundin like a total sap I will tell you what we have BUILT with it. We have turned many a junky rent house into a HOME with that little hammer, pictures and curtains all hung with love and care. School projects. Forts in the backyard. Pet cages. Parties. It rests in one of my kitchen drawers guarded as if gold plated.

Hi everyone! I am grabbing another cup of coffee. Save my chair. While I was in the kitchen, I popped some French toast fingers in the microwave. I got them in "The Treasure Box" that I purchase each month. Hay! they taste pretty good. cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top.

The class was documented. I got a really nice plaque from the city for the achievement. I was asked to come work for the State. I thought about it. I really liked where I was working It was a hard decision. I really should have taken the job. I would be still working today.

MamaG, so sorry about loosing your EE. I lost my first baby last year! Harder than I thought!

Jena, it sounds like we are going to have to start a pergola thread. I think that's what I'll be building, too. Three of us = a thread! I have an area by my back door between the house and garage that is very ugly right now, and is begging for a facelift. It also happens to be the weak link in my chicken containment system. No fence or gate.

So, I am going to make a gate with a pergola, make that two gates, one on either side, and turn it into a little courtyard. The pergola will be perfect for some climbing roses or grapes. Add a little cafe table, and I can sit in the sun with the cats. They will love it. I will love it. The cats never get outside. And the chickens will finally have to stay in the backyard.

Micah, what a cool story! That hammer has had quite a life.

Pati, nothing like Duct tape and baling wire. I have plenty of that, too!

And the roto-zip is pretty neat, too.

Indeed the Red Hammer is a treasure. I have a large hand held Magnifying glass my mother had in her tool box for 25 years. When she worked at Motorola GED. When she retired in went in a drawer next to her chair. We all Fondly called it Sherlock Holmes. That is what she named it. When she passed away that was one of her personal things, I wanted. It now sets in a glass container on my desk. I do use Sherlock!

Oh, I must have missed the first question. What was it again?

My favourite tool is my battery powered screwdriver and my stapler that I use to cover my run in plastic every winter. And I do have a tool belt when I'm outside doing stuff. It also holds my gardening things.

And I love my garden cart. It hauls a lot of stuff for me.
