The Kitchen Table - come sit with us! new request added to post 1!

So like a month ago I bought a rooster weathervane for my chicken coop.......finally got around to putting it up today.

I'm also about done with a big doghouse I'm building in the front yard. I need some shorter nails with big heads for putting the tin on the roof, then I'll be done.
Oh what will I do with myself?

JUST KIDDING!!

There's always a million things to do around here. The outlet on the front of my house isn't working --- and all the outlets further down the line on that circut --- and it's a major inconvenience. Currently my brooder light in the living room is on a 15' Agro extension cord from the outlet above the kitchen sink

and I have to run my drill's power off of that extension cord too, which reminds me I need to go unplug it so I can close the front door.

Tala, there is a special nail for metal roofing. You are right that it is a short nail with a big head but that describes a roofing nail for asphalt shingles. The ones for metal look similar but the having a neoprene gasket. Without those the roof will leak.

oh I know, I used those kind for my chicken coop

But honestly, I put the tin on my chicken tractor with regular nails and it doesn't leak --- BECAUSE the tin is only attached around the edges so no nail holes in the middle area to leak water in. Well the dog house will also only have nails on the edges so I don't think it's really gonna matter. Still the only nails I have are about 3" long for putting up 2x4's so if I have to buy some I might as well buy the "right" kind, right?

Note #3 - What is your town like? Why do you like living there? Where did you live before this? Okay, okay, it's three questions, but humor me.

My town is a little over 150 years old. The martini was invented here. We were a fishing town once upon a time, but now it is a quaint town of antique shops and fun little restaurants. It's very family friendly, with festivals for the kids, like our Winter Festival, where they make snow for sledding. That's a big deal here in coastal CA. I like this place because there are so many generations of families here. It isn't transient like so many of the CA towns I've lived in. It is also the county seat, so we have the court house and jail. Lots of lawyers eat lunch here, which is why we have so many fun restaurants. Otherwise, I don't think it does us much good. We probably have as many bail bondsmen as restaurants.

I also like it because it's beautiful and quiet, except for the train whistle. The Amtrak station is half a mile from my house, but there is a hill in between, so the noise isn't bad. You can fish off the pier and catch bass and sturgeon. And then, the sea lions will steal your catch.

Before this I lived in Antioch, CA. It was much more suburban, which to me means much more of the same thing you find everwhere else -- same chain restaurants, same houses, same....same. I really like it here.

eta - oh, yeah, forgot -- We are also the home of the Martinez Beavers. Google it.

Also, it was the home to John Muir, when he wasn't hiking around the Sierras, and the DiMaggio family was here for generations, as in Joe. (We have his decrepit boat at the waterfront.)

Auburn used to be the capital of CA also LOL.... Ophir which is an ITTY BITTY blip just south of it is so small it only has three stop signs and less than two hundred people. We do have a fire dept, a k-8 school, and a ac/heating company. The rest is just farms.

We are blessed beyond blessed to live where we do. We had to move from our last place cuz the landlord wanted to do an extensive remodel. I am a single mom with a really limited income, so I started praying for a place where I could have my 2 dogs, my 58 chickens, plant a garden and have an orchard and would be so ridiculously cheap, it could only be a miracle from God. Two weeks later my girlfriend said her next door neighbor who travels out of the country for work for most of the year wanted to rent his house on 3 acres with an orchard and garden and all the animals would be fine. He just wanted a very small amount of rent for keeping the place up. So many people's faith was increased because of our blessing, including ours.

Auburn our town has the nicest people and is totally small town feeling. I do wish we got more snow though!!

Boo, I think I call that socket on a handle a ratchet. idunno

But its not a ratchet, it doesn't pivot or anything. its just like a screwdriver, but has a socket end.

Oh and my other tool is my box knife. I've had the same box knife for work since '78. Its orange.
