The Legbar Thread!

Does anyone have a picture of a standard correct colored rooster? I've seen most pictures here in the US the cockerels and roos have yellow, sometimes even a bit of red; but when I visit legbar UK sites the males are pretty much grey and white. I have a feeling the grey and white males are correct, but personally like that little splash of color.

Are the ones we have birds of a different "technical" color? Crested Goldens?

Just curious. :)

I think the gray and white is the correct standard but they are very hard to come by. I fell in love with the Cream Legbar when I saw pictures of them in the Practical Poultry magazine. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I finally saw my roosters. They looked nothing like the beauties in the magazine.

My 5 week old roosters usually have red combs. I'll get pictures of my guys today. I have 2 white roos and 3 white hens growing out.
Thanks!
Look forward to pics

I wonder if ours have that extra color because they've been recently crossed with a brown leghorn? It would improve production, but reintroduce the color. The pictures on Greenfires site shows roosters with the yellow and red.

I wonder too if the white legbars popping up because of a recent crossing with white or production leghorns. I know someone mentioned that one of Greenfire's lines was a production line. The cross would still produce blue eggs.

I do know that my birds, the ones producing the whites, came from the first line that was imported into the US. So these genes are coming from the UK.

I meant, I wonder if they were crossed before import. I imagine that Greenfire imported a utility/production line, since we don't have standard correct birds. I think we would see a lot more of those colorless roosters if they had imported exhibition stock. I prefer utility before looks, but it would have been nice to see standard correct cream legbars. :)

Maybe a few generations down the road we'll have it sorted out or someone will have imported exhibition bloodlines. Ya know? Looking at the UK birds, I think those were the first pics of a Cream Legbar I've seen with a nice full flowing tail. We'll get there one way or the other eventually.
