The Legbar Thread!

Do you have whites that will be laying anytime soon? Interested in swapping white eggs at some point? I have a trio of whites that should be starting to lay by summer.
I have at least one split hen and a white roo if that helps. In all I have 9 hens. We could for sure do an egg swap!

You can have the white roo in a month or 2 if you like as I would like to move to a regular colored one, (and have a super one growing out). The white roo is too sweet to be lunch.

Anybody near Orlando, Florida? I'll be visiting the Mouse next week to celebrate my brother's last birthday and would love to meet a Cream Legbar person and maybe bring some hatching eggs home. :)

I am an hour and a half north west of Disney. I went there last weekend. I have legbar eggs and chicks. message me if you like.

I would love to hear something about the Cream Legbar as far as personality and demeanor. I love the blue eggs, but are they generally docile, aggressive, friendly, like to be handled ?
Thanks.

Most people who raise Cream Legbars consider them friendly and non-agressive.

The roosters are highly protective and diligent about caring for the hens. They are good foragers, and almost seem aloof, some times -- like "who needs you?". They will be handled, but it isn't their favorite thing from my experience, but some folks have CLs that are very tame. The roosters are very good to the hens...as in seeing that they hens are the first to get treats, calling the hens over for good finds, being gentle when they breed the hens, and guarding the doors at night and when the hen is in the nesting box. It almost reminded me the other day of the father in the waiting room of the maternity ward in the old movies.....

In my experience they will come running over to you when ever they see you -- and hens and roosters will eat our of your hand. (a couple of times my most recent rooster missed the treat though - he may have needed glasses.) I had one hen go broody last fall -- and she was an excellent teacher to her chicks. It almost looked like she wouldn't let them slough off and go to the feed tray until she was sure that they were expert foragers...and it seemed she was constantly teaching them the ropes.

I have a pullet that just started to lay -- and she has laid every day for the past 11-days, skipped 2-days before that...and the day before a tiny egg was her first. She's 24 weeks old when started to lay and that seems to be pretty much the norm for Cream Legbars to start.

Hope you get some others to weigh in --

They are fascinating and beautiful bird to boot.
