I will definitely do that. I've been planning to track the difference, but don't have a defined method. What's the best way to mark them without hurting their legs as they grow?

There are a couple of ways. I have not used them myself but have been told wingbanding them is convenient because you never have to change it out. You can use zip ties or spiral legbands but you must change them as they grow. I really like the legbands because they come in different colors, I get an assorted pack from www.cutlersupply.com. I use size 4 for baby chicks, size 6 or 7 at about 2 1/2 weeks, then size 11 at about 12 weeks. If you wanted to keep them banded the males will probably need a size 13 or so at full size. I use one or two colors for each of my breeds that are hard to tell apart, like Ameraucanas and EEs or Isbars and the occasional BCM without feathered legs. Then as gender becomes apparent in my other breeds I go through and add a zip tie to the females so they are easy to pull out when someone comes to buy birds. I either cut off the zip ties as I sell them or tell the customers to take them off within a few weeks. They can lose a leg if you don't take it off and it stays on way too long.
Congratulations Sue,well I got legbar chicks. I just 3 of the lost shipped egges hatched. I am really surprized (scrabble let me spell it that way) LOL Not only did they get lost in the mail for 2 days extra I lost electricity for 7 hours a week ago. I think there is 2 boys and a girl. will take picture tomorrow. Set on 4-5-13 AM hatch started the 4-25-13. I THINK the hatch is over. Got about a 50% hatch of the eggs I sat. Been getting 75% on a average. I amagine NO eletricity didn't help . Will do egg- topsy soon.
nice. I see one light barred male and one Dark barred male. would be a perfect time to see the contrast of both males as they grow.. keep us updated please
