The Legbar Thread!

Here are the other Legbars hens that I have. They are to the left of her. I have three pullets that are four months old. I also have other chicks that range from just under one month to two months old. I await the reply from Greenfire on what Amelia really is.....

Just to clarify...I got a hen and roo.....the Roo is a legbar but the hen (Amelia) is an alleged Legbar. My friend go the other hen which looks like my hen

While your center girl has more red on her back than I'm used to, she's definitely more legbar than Amelia. Do you have any pics of your boy? If that's him on the left, he is barred well but looks like he has alot of red/rust markings (or maybe it's just the lighting)??? Just want to make sure you got what you paid for. Mistakes happen when you have lots of breeds and I'm sure GFF will make it right for you.

I agree looks more like a swedish flower hen.... like Kestlyn said, contact GFF again, they value their customers and if there was a mix-up they will make it right.

Thanks GaryDean26 I really appreciate it. This last fiasco and dispatching so many birds was horrid but having to cull my Marans boy was just the toughest. And some folks here in NH who disagreed with my choosing to cull the way I did and the numbers, did so in ways that really made me consider giving up this hobby if that's what the general thought process was out here. I love the challenge of breeding in a way I had not anticipated when I first started so since I was lucky enough to still have them I would keep going... for now.

The differences in the GFF lines is interesting but this current New Line seems a bit inconsistent. I assume partially because they are mixing it with the older lines. From some of the 2013 birds I see and the one I have in my flock I am curious as to what the general characteristics will be in the end and what are folks currently noticing about them. My 2013 girl that just started laying is really nice but not sure what this new shipment will grow out like as the boys especially vary so much in color and tone in the down from dark gray to light brown/gray.

And I agree also, Swedish Flower hens. Nice that they are crested and they are very pretty but not Legbars.

Yes...I rather start with lines that aren't mixed so I know what I can expect in the offspring. I would rather do my own mixing so I know how the mixing is being done and can better control the impact on the line. :) I guess none of that maters know. I have what I have and am getting a better feel for what they can produce. :)

You made a conscientious, informed, difficult, and courageous decision, and I'm surprised anyone had the gall to criticize you.

Mystery solved.....Amelia is a SFH. Apparently my friend ordered SFH as well but didn't tell me. She grew out my pair of Legbars fro me and dropped them off for me. She obviously grew out the SFH for me as the Legbar. Another friend got the same deal as me. So two of us have Legbar roos and SFH pullets. I dropped a line to her asking her if she had the other pullets...you know, the ones she thinks that are the SFH....but in reality are the Legbars.

Well, I will see if she wants Amelia back...she is a nice hen and I would actually like to buy her for my SFH flock.
