The Legbar Thread!

The first group of rose comb cream legbars that I decided to sell are going to a new home tomorrow! I have been stressing about worst case events happening that could wipe out all of my hard work with this variety and have been wanting other breeders to have them so if anything happened, I could get stock back to start. I posted a trio of a pure cockerel and 2 breeder quality pullets on a facebook page and they sold within 2 minutes. The lady has been wanting legbars but hates the huge combs so she was thrilled to get an opportunity to work with them. I have a few cockerels that I hope to post online once it cools so other folks around the country can get a start with them soon and increase the diversity

Congratulations! I hope your next sale goes as smoothly as the first!

Woohoo..... I got a surprise today... 4 female CCL chicks.... a friend at a chicken sale called me and picked them up for me!!!

i was beginning to think i was cursed.. first the muff lady, then the lost pullet (who is doing ok but had the stuffing knocked out of her)

then i participated in my first swap and my 6 ccl eggs never showed up..

finally the curse seems to be breaking :D..... woot!!

Glad to hear it.

Someone got a rooster crossed somewhere.... I thought the muff gene is dominant so you should see it even if the bird only has one copy of the gene. But you said neither of your parent birds have muffs?
Rinda, my birds came from someone who got her birds directly from Greenfire & she doesn't even have Ameraucanas or anything with muffs, so it has to be in the genes somewhere. This is the first chick I have had like that.

Hi Trish44!

Why don't you post a few pictures of the pullet in question?

I can't help but notice that you have in your signature that you raise Ameraucanas, so I have to ask why you don't think one of your Am roos might be a sneaky visitor and the chick daddy? I must be missing something? Did you get chicks from this person that grew into the muffed bird? Does your muffed lady have a hybrid comb? Curious.

Marking my spot
thats usually done by lifting a leg....lol

On another note...I am a newbie to chooks and know even less about CCLs ....seems a number of folk are doing some interesting breeding: goldens, muffs, rose combs, whites, etc...I know there's no formal standards for US, but, if you are changing what a CCL is(according to the Brits and what GreenFire imported), isn't the progeny a mixed breed /flawed bird...I hope I'm not offending anybody...its also a bit confusing because there's three separate threads for CCL, CL, and Legbars....are they considered different? TIA!
