The Legbar Thread!

Probably I will post this in all the breed-related threads.

Here is a photo of one of the Jill Rees cockerels growing at Greenfire Farms

Regarding color, I had said this cockerel could be the acceptable coloration by both ends of the continuum.

I beleive Paul said that their (the Jill Rees birds) general availability would start Q2 of 2014.

I wonder if GFF are getting Birds from Jill Rees and a new wave of people will be getting them.... The next question is: if you were one of the first in to have the colorful birds GFF were breeding back in the day.. would you keep Jill Rees line separately from the colorful birds? would you allow them to breed together? doing so will improve GFF colorful line but will be a set back to Jill rees line........ I would devise a breeding plan on how to improve the more popular(or larger breeding base) coloful birds with Jill Rees line..... OR.... Start from Scratch and just beed Jill rees line?.... what would you do?

I usually don't post links to farm newsletters, but here is one announcing their intention to include Jill Rees birds into their line:

I am very excited about this development. It mentions 2014, so I doubt that any of the chicks from this new line will be sold this year.
DC chicken,
Thanks for the link--- either Jill is tremendously petite - or her 'Lillian' (the top prize winner in UK 2012) is MUCH larger than our CLs here in the USA. (Probably both) -- I need to email her and try to get some weights and sizes - (although the SOP does already have weights).

Thanks.

Sorry nicalandia, I'm always talking shorthand. Eggs from Jill Rees birds were hatched and the resulting chicks were imported to the USA. The birds were held in USDA quarantine upon arrival to the USA for some long period of time as the Ag regulations stipulate. Subsequently, they then traveled to Greenfire Farms in FL. That is one of the reasons that the import of birds is an expensive and difficult process.

So when I say Jill Rees birds - I mean that the eggs are from Jill Rees. They are Greenfire's birds now.

Does that all make sense? :O)
