Use dog nail clippers, like these. Even when the chicks have grown too fast and the bands are snug, these will still remove them without pinching or risk of injuring the chick. (I don't neccessary endorse this brand, just looking for a picture to post.)
Thanks, everybody. I already have a pair of those toenail trimmers that I have used on older chicks and they worked perfectly. There must be a pair of tiny wire cutters around here somewhere, too. I'll try them all.
They are so adorable. I think the legbands are going to determine their personality based on the colors LOL.
welcome to the forum!!!!
Neat idea about adhering to the UK standards (I suspect when they are in the USA book that will be the model). I'm really interested in the color of blue for the eggs too. Also thinking that the autosexing is a valuable part of managing. I guess mid-summer I can start looking for an egg.
I got my Cream Legbars today from Greenfire Farms. I ordered 5 girls and 2 boys and got 7 girls with red bands and 3 boys with blue bands. The box had 2 heat packs, food sprinkled in it, and grow gel. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic I was to excited to find the good camera.
I picked mine up at the airport last evening. Everybody's fine! They are banded red, yellow, and blue. I ordered a trio from each of the three lines and received 3 females and a male from each line plus and extra red banded male. Tried to take pictures this am after cleaning up the night time mess but by the time I got back upstairs with the camera - they had all gone back under the EcoGlow thing. It was worth waiting since before Christmas!!! These guys are SO cute. Pictures when I clean up again in an hour or so.
