The Legbar Thread!

This is what I consider my most correct hen. Here she was just a pullet. Her crest is larger now. But you can see the cream hackles, salmon breast, tucked up wing, nice barring in the tail. Good leg, beak, and ear color. Her comb stayed rather smaller than my others even once she started laying so that will be useful to keep the male's combs smaller. She is also the girl whose eye went all gray I think from an injury. But she still has gorgeous genetics so she STAYS! ETA: to make her more perfect I would like a more even rounding from the breast to the leg, and less poof sticking out under her tail.
Agreed - she is certainly among the best we have in USA! Dretd - if you see this how does the color compare to how you envision the colors? Wonder what it would take to move toward a more gray?

I think that's just creating a lot of extra work and expense when there are already afordable tools available for us to use. No need to reinvent the wheel. I'm satisfied using the OAC chart.
The OAC chart is just too inaccurate and limited for me. You might was well hold a crayon next to an egg. I am going to create a Cream Legbar chart with accurate Pantone colors since I prefer accuracy. Pantone was developed before OAC. So really, so it is odd that they would introduce a product when there was already the standard across multiple markets and one that can be used to generate web and print equivalent colors.

Choice will be a good thing. I am going to offer a color chart created just for Cream Legbars. Hopefully we will all never, ever again have to hear a judge describe cream as light butter (or whatever horribly inaccurate phrase was used). I will be giving my customers a Cream Legbar color chart with every purchase. People are free to us whatever color chart they want to use.

I think the objection to Pantone has been the price. If you custom-picked the colors (perhaps in consultation with other breeders) and the price was reasonable, it would be awesome. I'd certainly buy it.

I'd say go for it- please keep us updated on your project!

X2 totally agree!

You wouldn't need to buy it. If the chart is based upon Pantone (or the CMYK equivalents), then you could simply enable Pantone calibration on your printer and print it out on any high quality photo printer paper. That's kind of the point of using a world-wide standard such as Pantone. Or possibly we could allow people to just order a calibrated poster from Cafe Press or similar website.

I would go for the calibrated poster. Sounds great.

While we're musing, I'd like a small booklet with colors by page, with each color big enough to work with -- like the OAC vs. Ameraucana. I'm too old to look at itty-bitty squares. Let's put that on Cafe Press (or wherever), too. :)

That's certainly another problem with the Ameraucana color chart - the size of the color samples is just too small.
