The Legbar Thread!

They were all sort of green if compared to blue and bluish if compared to olive or green. They're supposed to be English Cream Legbars.

Oh, and the top chick in the middle pic with the dot on it's head is just a littermate, a Trader Joe's egg (production white)

Do you have the link to the ebay listing you bought from by chance?

I haven't yet heard of anyone refer to their CL as English Cream Legbars, maybe they meant Cream Legbar that they are breeding to the British SOP?

The link I bought from I cannot bring up as it has been discontinued. HOWEVER, if you type in English Cream Legbar into the eBay search engine it brings up another of their listings that is a RIR cross with the English Cream Legbar.

I bought those eggs, too, and got a cute little (according to the description) pullet.
(CL x RIR) = Ethel (who is VERY chipmunky and red)

The more I look at these other chicks (the pure CL ones) the less they remind me of auto-sex and more like sex-link. I mean, I have one yellow and one orange.

saw an ebay listing and the egg basket did have fairly green-looking eggs---and the hens in the photo look a lot like they are hybrid.

Let's try this:

I think I stated before that the eggs were not large (a little light on medium) and were not a pretty sky blue (more a green tint)
I really think they mixed up your order with someone. I looked up their feedback and they sold a bunch of cream Legbar X RIR crosses around the same time as your eggs and all of them were quantity six. Based on their feedback they are a reputable seller, so you may want to contact them and see if they have a way to remedy the situation.

I did buy (at the same time) their Cream Legbar x RIR cross. They were brown eggs and the one that hatched yielded a nice chipmunky one (pullet, see pic above Post 7393/7395). The Sellers are also purveying 3rd Generation Olive Eggers and the eggs in question are definitely not olive.

I have left messages via the eBay messaging program to the Seller about "From your pure Legbar eggs: Just what is this? Boy? Girl?" and have gotten NO reply.
Sigh...

Not sure what to do. The yellow chick has a very distinct yellow dot and so I'll make the leap that he IS a boy. Orangey chick with spots does not have spot but does have some erratic chipmunk spots, so will most likely have to wait-and-see it..

Well they are beating you on a technicality on the Olive eggers I think. Per my understanding Olive eggers have to be produced every time.Hatches from Olive eggers will not necessarily lay Olive eggs. Only the 1st generation will lay green to Olive colored eggs. So when they are saying 3rd generation, they are covering their ..... Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

At this point probably you should file a claim and unless you want to raise a Barnyard mix, I would re-home all the chicks you have from this person.

Quote: Jessica,

It's nice to meet another crazy schooling fanatic. Lol... A Paw Paw is a fruit tree. Supposedly the fruit tastes somewhat like a banana. I must admit, even though I'm in Paw Paw, I've never eaten one. ;)

Good luck with your Legbars! Hopefully, you'll end up with a male female pair or two females where you can get a male. Fingers crossed!

I said I would post back - when he was more filled out

He retains the long back, retains the high wings -- his comb has flopped - but I wonder if that is due to illness and will straighten - he doesn't look so leggy--- and he molted his wild random sickles that pointed forward....and his tail has calmed down -

This was a pre-sickness photo when his comb was straight and his now molted tail feather faced forward... about 1-month after the first picture....They DO go through a lot of different stages as they mature IMO.
