The Legbar Thread!

Some more pictures of some of the Jill Rees Legbars I'm keeping (I will be keeping 9 total, but this gives you an idea). I'm quite proud of them and excited to breed toward the standard even more in future generations. They're only 7 months old and already looking great!

Awww, I think it is kind of cute and appealing -- and yes, her crest will change for you. :O). At a certain stage, mine look like little punk-rockers, then when they are matrue you will have well coiffed pullets.
Thanks for your comments everyone! ChicKat- haha! Punk rockers

Henson- your girls look great! Thanks for posting pictures. Always love to see pics.

Thanks! I'm really happy with them and plan to keep breeding better and better birds. I'll be keeping two males and 7 females from the Jill Rees lines. I started with about 20 chicks. So, it took a litte bit of picking and choosing to get to the ones I'm keeping. A couple of the Rees birds lay a blue/green egg instead of the sky blue that I'm used to seeing. Thankfully, I'm not seeing olive eggs that some have reported. I also have 4 Legbar hens from other lines that lay perfectly blue eggs. So, I'm planning to separate them all into 2 breeding pens and breed toward correct plumage, better crests and lighter blue eggs.

No olive egg Cream Legbars were imported. In order to get olive eggs -- there had to have been an out-cross to non-GFF chickens. Whomever is distributing this set of genetics to the USA and saying that they are CLs - I HOPE that they are giving Full Disclosure to their buyers. If you are a buyer -- be sure to ask.

The one person I know of who was selling these genetics was doing it a year or so ago--- so who knows how widespread it may be by now.

My Rees line pullets lay very green eggs, not even blue-green. I wouldn't call them olive but they are definitely green

Ill try to see if I can capture a picture showing somewhat there true color.

The slightly bluer eggs are from my own hens, the green eggs are from my Rees pullets. I do not like taking pics of blue and green eggs lol it is so tough.

So far, I've gotten eggs that are mostly closer to blue than green. But, they aren't "sky blue" like my other ladies. The greenest eggs I've gotten are about like second egg from the right on the bottom. Kind of teal. But, I haven't gotten any as green as the one on the furthest left on the bottom. (again, this is me guessing based on pictures of your eggs--which we all know are hard to get with blues/greens that are so close to each other).
